Air purifiers

Do air purifiers work as far as helping reduce pet dander, home odors, etc?
Seems like they just recycle air and may not do a lot to help a home.
Maybe a number are needed, like one in every room to really detect improvements?

It may just be in my head but I have a levoit and it seems to work with food odors. I have a small house so even with the hood vent going the whole house ends up smelling like food. I kick that sucker on high and it seems to clear the odor more quickly.

Look into a Halo air purifier for your unit.

They definitely remove pet hair and dander. I can vacuum it out of the prefilter every few weeks. I have the Coway Airmega. Has been one of the best for a long time.

I've had a Coway for a while. It's always set on Auto, and only kicks into high gear if I'm searing meat in the kitchen.

Have two of the large room Levoit units, they seem to work pretty well. Have the optional "pet" rated filters in them. No unit is going to catch much pet hair, the stuff just isn't that airborne. Does work well for dust and odors though. Keep them running at level 2 speed almost 24/7.

We've had a COWAY in the bedroom and in the great room adjacent to kitchen four years. The HEPA filters definitely fill up with fine particulate crud between replacements. Subjectively, we've had fewer allergy issues since we began using. Cooking odors seem to dissipate faster. When evaluating models go for the larger HEPA filters but compare filter replacement costs. Some makers are out to make more money on replacement subscription than on the complete units.
