So I can’t get the AC to go off after adjusting the temp or using thermostat to turn unit off completely. I have to flip the breakers. NEST thermostat. I tried some troubleshooting steps I found online but nothing is working.

So it appears the outside unit is not on but it’s the inside blower that’s running.

Could very likely be a bad capacitor inside the condensing unit. Very common problem. Heat and voltage spikes, often caused by power outages-brownouts, are the general reason they fail. Do you have DYI skills?

I’ve changed capacitors before. But it’s the inside blower that won’t go off. Are those related? The condensing unit isn’t on when it’s not supposed to be. I’m not home so I didn’t test to see if it comes on when the AC is set to cool.

Pull the nest straight out from the wall until it pops off its mounting plate. If unit turns off, bad thermostat.
Nest may also run the blower for several minutes after condensing unit shuts off, for efficiency.

If the temperature in the house is not reaching thermostat set point it could cause the blower in the furnace-fan motor to continue to run. Happened to me 2 weeks ago when a soft start on my HVAC condensing unit failed.

NEST thermostats are also known to do “weird” things with HVAC units. Obviously could be several things. Power outages, brownouts, voltage pikes during the hurricane can cause issues. I installed a whole house surge protector last year for this reason.

Bad relay on the blower.

I experienced the same symptoms recently and that was the issue.

That happened to me with a Honeywell thermostat and the thermostat was bad. New one solved the problem.

i've had a nest thermostat fail this way when i was out of town for an extended period. there was an outage during that time, but not sure if it was due to the outage or happened before/after since i wasn't there. replacing the thermostat fixed it. but yeah blower would run. but outside wouldn't turn on.

So just got home. The condenser comes on in relation to what the thermostat is set to. Cooling - on, not cooling - turns off. The fan doesn’t stop. Pulled the thermostat off and the fan still ran. According to some research I did, that rules out issues with the thermostat. Guess I’ll have to get an HVAC guy out to look at the blower.

Just like mine. Now I'm even more sure it is the relay.

Mine would stick closed, completing the circuit. The thermostat had no idea and would cycle as normal.

Yeah it was the only way I could get it to shutoff. Didn’t want it running all day.

Don’t take this the wrong way….but when the power came back on someone didn’t inadvertently switch the fan mode from “auto” to “on” did they?

First thing a HVAC tech would check, in fact, they would probably tell you to check this on the phone before sending a truck out

Just letting mine blow nonstop made my house humid as hell. I eventually replaced mine with a carrier rescue blower motor.
