Try to close the blinds when the sun is radiating on that side of the house

i do exactly what you do; move the temp up to 75 or so. wife likes it at 71

Considering getting a lockbox or a zapper for my GF touching the damn thing.

She had it cranked down to 60 one day trying to cool it off, going to freeze the damn thing out.

Just like money they think its just a magic button.

Putting it super low doesn’t change the temp of the air coming out. Just controls how much air. The air is always the same temp. (Cold or hot I mean)

To which my wife would reply
"Well, it's not that way in the car. Why isn't the house as smart as the car?"

i tried very hard not to laugh at this.

i think the last remaining war of the sexes on this planet will revolve around the thermostat temperature.

Normal for an A/C unit. Look at it this way. The outside temperature is in the mid to upper 90's and your inside temperature is, according to you, up to 76.

That is a 20 or so degree in temperature drop, and that is good, especially with full sun in the afternoons hitting your house.

Perhaps more air movement in the attic for ventilation or heavier insulation could help.

this is often a result of attics getting extremely hot, check the attic ventilation is clear and working. often power vents go bad and nobody notices it.

also have your a/c unit cleaned and pressures checked. if the coils outside are dirty and clogged the unit overheats and the compressor will shut off in the hottest part of the day

lastly, make sure the filter is clean and maybe get the inside coils cleaned if it hasnt been done in the last 5-7 years
