A/C Help!

To help with the strain on your A/C, get the outside coils cleaned. You need that airflow across the coils for the heat transfer away from the unit.
If it’s been 3 years or more, you might want to see about getting them cleaned.
It will add to the life of the unit, and save on the electricity bill!

Might be overkill on my end.. but I clean them twice a year.

Never overkill. It's easy enough to pull the hose around and give it a good pressurized spray. Take the covers off every few years and to a thorough cleaning.

Add to that, routine changing of return air filters, and avoiding highly restrictive, high MERV, 1 in thick pleated filters. Thicker, 2 to 5 inch, high MERV filters are fine if your system can accommodate them.

This is a simple DIY with a garden hose.

And pull the disconnect so you don't electrocute anyone. Have I done it without pulling it? Yes, but no longer.

No need to get them done by a AC company though.
Just pull the disconnect off, romove the top portion of the condenser and sort of flip it up. Then soak it with simple green or a dawn and water mixture. Then rinse from the inside out. Nice and easy.

You don’t want the spray to be so pressurized that it flattens out the fins, though

This, also many use a mild caustic to clean. Some cleaners, you have to use caution, they do more harm than good to the coils.

Correct. My thumb over the hose pipe from about 5 feet has been effective.
