I know you can have companies come out and clean them. Has anyone ever tried it themselves? If so, how and what did you use?

If they are filthy you have an issue with the ducts. It shouldn't be that bad

I’m not saying they are bad. I haven’t actually inspected them. I just figured it couldn’t hurt to clean them and I was curious if someone on here had done that before.

I have not tried it myself, but have had a service do it. They got a ton of crap out of my ductwork. However, I saw no difference in air quality after I had them cleaned, so I will not do it again.

Duct cleaning is a scam.

Just change them out, assuming all accessible. That would be a much better install

Swapping out filters regularly is the best strategy. Even if not, duct cleaning is a scam. I’ve worked with, not for( marketing), and they are sketchy. Not paying bills, changing business name, ignoring complaints, etc.

most of them are scammy. If you have flexduct then just replace if you want clean ducts. If hardpipe then you might benefit a little.
