Someone gave this same advise to a woman in my neighborhood and it landed her with frozen pipes. Luckily none busted in the slab.
Just drip your faucets.

a doubled water bill is wayyy less expensive than busted pipe repair and cleanup and inconvenience.

We have a bathroom on the second floor and the water heater is in the basement.
I'll run the hot water until it gets hot, usually takes a minute to get the water hot at the faucet. Run it for another minute or so.
My theory is that it'll warm the pipe enough that it'll take longer to freeze.

I've found at least on the larger pyc ball valves that they have a pocket around the ball that if you leave it full open even after draining down the line, will still expand and crack the jacket and then leak. I've been setting the valve at 45° and so far so good. These are 2" valves on my well head Christmas tree.
