He’d probably smack me if I asked him that, his knuckles are busted up.

Going to snow in the morning here.

Cutworms can knock out bean stems quickly.

Spent some time yesterday and today finishing up spring cleanup in the garden.

Needed to cleanup the last half row to fit the rest of tomato seedlings in. It’s got 3 leftover onions from last year in it.

Added a new string line on the weave.

I’m pretty certain some of my garlic disappeared at some point.

Onions are going strong. Fertilized right before the rain last week.

1st planting of beans are breaking through.

Peas are blooming.

Strawberries are about to start production mode!

Mounded up topsoil on the potatoes.

Question for the group: I constantly fight this weed in the garden. I think it’s some kind of ragweed. The above ground green part is connected to other weeds by white roots. If you follow those deep into the ground you get to a woody brown root alittle smaller than your finger. If you pull the weed, it just sprouts more from this root. I think the only way I can control it is to paint it with herbicide.

Anybody else fight this bastard?

Yeah that's what I was thinking with the rolypolys. I've blamed them before, only to realize later it was cutworms or snails.

I've seen it in my yard, but not in the garden yet.

Nutsedge...godspeed in your efforts. I've never been able to get rid of it.

It’s not nutsedge. I’ve nuked this weed in our backyard zoysia with selective herbicide like 2-4D.

Is the weed in that last picture? The only weed I can tell is some spotted spurge.

ETA: Shoot, I thought those other small plants were small tomato seedlings at first. After zooming in, it does sort of look like perennial ragweed.

I’ll see if I can get better pictures tomorrow. I am done for the day after fighting the 20-30mph winds.

I’m pretty sure I have a backyard full of that stuff. I’m about to nuke and throw some seed out.

Spent all day outside. Got everything transplanted and sowed except zucchini… will pick some up from the feed store tomorrow.

Went to turn on the irrigation system and found a hole in the main line. The coupler doesn’t look like it should stop a leak but so far so good.

This pressure reducer also leaks when I push on it slightly. You can see that it’s off-center near the inlet… one of the kids probably bumped it. Is there a better option to replace it with? I’m planning on adding the EZ Flow fertilizer system.

It's not this?

It’s similarly linked below ground but doesn’t look like that above ground.

I can see how those look like tomato seedlings.

It’s western ragweed. Mystery solved. Now on to meeple’s water issue. I have used black electrical tape wrapped around that poly pipe to fix a hole. As for the pressure reducer, it’s plastic. Just buy another one. Any attempted rigging of it will just frustrate you.

See how it looks kinda angled from the threaded end to the next section at the top? I had one that did the exact same thing. It was cracked. You’ll have to replace it.

ETA: since it’s going to have some pressure on it from the weight of the timer and the main line, I’d go with a brass pressure regulator. They make 50 psi brass regulators that are commonly used on RV’s.

ETA2: Comme ca

Great, thanks. I failed to mention that I’m using the Mister Landscaper system rated for 25 psi. I found a brass regulator rated for it. Thanks for setting me on the right track!

20-30 water pressure reducer regulator

ETA now that you point this out

I probably need to find a splitter that has one outlet that points straight down

ETA2… which may not exist because I can’t find anything other than the “Y” type

Easy fix. Just turn it to where one is facing straight out and the other is facing down. Like I have on mine here:

Nice! Except that my faucet isn’t angled, it curves and emits straight down. I’d have to get a new one.

ETA now I know this is a thing. I can just add one of these!

Day 4 of hardening my tomatoes tomorrow in partial sunlight. Winds are expected to be 15-25mph. Y'all think they'll be ok? Winds are already kicking up right now.

I put one of my tomato plants in the dirt on Thursday. It had no sunburn by Sunday so I planted the rest.

All of my peppers are in the ground. The cucumbers and melons I thought had made it through the cold snap have all withered to nothing. Direct sowing the replants this weekend. Also direct sowing the squash.

Anybody here grow Aji Charapita peppers? They took forever to germinate and are growing at a snail's pace now.
