We pick our carrots a meal at a time.

I needed the bed for the beans. Plus we'll just puree them and feed to little miss juice.

Sounds like time for an expansion project.

Always!

Did a little morning walk out in the garden before church like I usually do on Sundays. I don’t have any red strawberries yet but they are flowering like crazy and I have a few small ones growing. They’re looking healthy so far.

Blackberries are also starting to load up.

And holy smokes my Meyer lemon is full of flowers. This is year 3 for it and I think I’ve only gotten one lemon off of it so far. Hopefully this year will be different.

Seedlings have been outside for a little while and they should be good to go when the time comes. Just trying to be patient now.

Last bunch of carrots pulled this morning. I’ve been getting 2-3 strawberries a day for the past week waiting on a bunch to ripen at same time.

So close I can almost taste it!

I’m happy to be seeing this right now in the meantime.

……….. eh, I guess you can hang out, too.

Whelp I couldn't stand it. Broke down and put my cucumbers and melons in the ground. At least I can start some new ones quick if they freeze.

Put my tomatoes out to harden. Set a timer for 1 hour. They got burnt. Whomp whomp.

I actually took the whole weekend off and spent most of it outside. I got a regular mow in on the front yard and a scalp and bag on the backyard.

Got both garden beds weeded and a fresh layer of mulch on. Right now I just have the fig tree surrounded by strawberries in one and 3 blueberry bushes in the other.

My tomatoes are probably ready to go in the ground but I’ll probably hold off another week or 2. The peppers are lagging behind but hopefully they really get going in the next few weeks.

I could have sworn I had leftover beens from my yard long beans but I’m not sure what I did with them. I need to go find some more and get those started.

I also started some watermelons which the kids were excited about and then replaced an apple tree with a satsuma out in the yard. I had planted 2 apples in 2020 but Laura did a number on them. 1 just never could fully recover and was leaning more and more with each gust of wind.

I decided to hold off on planting until next weekend. Long term forecast has a night in the low 40s next weekend and I’d like to get a better idea about that before I sow cucumbers etc. I may plant my tomatoes one day this week regardless

Oh crap! Pas bon. How bad are they? They could potentially recover if it isn’t too bad.

Same. Once we get past that, as long as the 10 day outlook is good, I’m planting.

I think they'll make it, they're back inside for a while. I'm hoping to have them in the ground the week before easter so I have some time. They're pretty big already.

I had this idea one time to build some sort of frame to put shade cloth over. And then when I go to harden off my seedlings I could just change out the shade cloth every couple of days. Start out at 90%, 2 days later, 70%, then 50%, then 30%. I don’t know if that would be worth my time or how well it would work. Maybe one day if I start to run out of projects I’ll give it a try.

We have had some cloudier days since last week to help with the transition. Also, if you know where the shade line from something like your house is, use that to position your pots. My house shade line catches them at about 2pm now, but later this week I'll move them further away to get longer sun.

That’s how I’ve been doing it for years. My back patio faces west so I just set them back against the house at first and move them out a little bit each day. The only problem I have with that is my kids play back there so I’m always nervous that they’ll step on them or kick a soccer ball at them.

I figured it was time to take my little tomatoes out of the starter bins and into real soil. They look absolutely terrible. All that work and where did it get me...

Oh well, learning by doing as my old FFA sponsor always told me. Peppers soon.

Haven’t planted anything yet and already have critters digging in my beds.

What’s a good deterrent besides a fence?

It’s probably squirrels. They’re already out and digging around my yard and garden, too. About to set up the squirrelinator trap.
