Got my tomatoes in the ground, need to repot my peppers that I started in the 100 cell flats.

Going to try and plant beans and flowers this week / weekend.

Still got everything to put in at the camp and need to setup and run water to both my home bed and the camp.

I’m setting up a full irrigation system this year.

I also got around to planting a fig tree I had bought a while back. I decided to plant in the chicken coop where I used to throw all the bedding because its all composted down now and pretty rich, plus the chickens need some more shade in the after noon.

you can go ahead and count on the chickens eating all the figs on at least the bottom 2-3 feet when it starts producing. ask me how I know . luckily, I still got almost 40lbs of figs last year, so wasn't too worried about it. especially since it's kinda funny to watch them hop up to grab a fig.

that said, I just put in 5 or 6 fruit trees and a whole new big arse flower bed around them for the wife near the coop. the girls will not step foot outside their run for several months.

Yeah I've already come to terms with that and am ok with it. The one I had bought is already pretty tall so hopefully in a year or 2 when it starts producing some will already be out of reach.

I’m about done free ranging mine. They can destroy a garden in no time if they gain access.

It’s not too bad when everything is bigger and established but they can wreck shop on my lawn if they get dead set on scratching in one place.

Here are my African drum gourds from last year. I keep forgetting them. Had 6 gourds: 2 small, 1 gigantic one I had to leave in the pasture b/c it was too heavy to move & these guys. Unfortunately the giant one & a small one rotted. I have no clue what I’m going to do with these things.

Planning to plant these, some bushel gourds, & bule gourds this season.

Very cool. You in BR area? I’d be interested in getting some of those seeds.

I planted a bunch late summer - bushel (got 2 ~9” round ones), birdhouse (got a bunch of them), dipper (got 3) and another mini one, got like 4.

So I’ve dried most of them and my kids are making all kinda stuff with them. I took several of the largest 8 and am making purple Martin houses out of them, late for this year but wth.

I just cleaned them tonight, drilled the holes, and dipped them in copper sulfate to reduce rot. Will paint white and put them up this weekend or next.

I set everything up and planted all of my garden about 10 days ago. We just got back from a week of vacation and I had 4 of the pepper plants that look like they burned up. I had several others with a small amount of sun burning, which seems about normal for nursery plants. The 4 just burning up though was a new one to me. I had them in the sun for increasing amounts of time over the previous week to get them used to the new conditions before planting them. It did not seem to help. Now, one lost all of its leaves but seems to be sprouting new ones like crazy so we shall see how it does. I think I'm going to replace the other three with habaneros. I was looking for some space anyway as I usually over buy for my space.

Hope everyone’s gardens make it through the weather. It’s already past me, but that wind was whipping earlier. Everything looks like it made it through ok with no damage.

Anyone here had any luck with asian pears?

I love them, but you can rarely find them at the supermarket. A simple google search mentions that it might be viable where I am (Atlanta suburbs).

Cucumbers, peppers look beat to hell, but nothing is dead yet. One jalapeno plant had damn near every leaf knocked off of it. Cucumbers needed to be thinned eventually anyway, so no real harm done there.

This is from about 10 days ago...

Some others you might to consider planting are cantaloupe, bush snap beans, and maybe eggplant.
