How warm has it been down there though? I know my cukes didn't really take off last year until it was constant 80+ degree highs and 60+ degree lows. Still a bit too cool up here for them to really get going.

That’s been the last few weeks here. With a couple of cooler days and nights mixed in. But most days it has been pretty warm.

I’m sure it won’t be long before they start growing like crazy. On another note I found two small tomatillos plants and a few tomato plants growing in other areas of my yard. I guess the seeds from some of the fruit somehow migrated over. Not complaining. One of the tomato plants already has flowers. I’m not adding any fertilizer or extra watering for them and will see how they do and we move into the summer pattern

My cucumbers are about 1.5 - 2 feet tall right now and doing great. I have lots of flowers, and many started baby cukes. Problem is that I have no bees yet that I can tell. They are growing great though. I'll try to share some pics later.

You can have fertilize the female flowers with a q-tip. Just dab it on a few male flowers and then add that pollen to the females. It will help if you aren’t seeing bees. If you don’t you’ll see a lot of baby cuces that die off before they get bigger than an inch.

I've been having to hand pollinate all of my squash/zucchini. No bees yet.

Tons of bees up here. They've been out for quite a bit now. Went crazy with my blueberry bushes.

We have a catnip plant beside our garden.

The bees freakin love that thing. Every morning there are a hundred or so one the plant and they move to the garden after.

If you have a cat or a neighbor has a cat, prepare for them to turn in to a junkie. My cat lays in the garden under the catnip plant all day everyday. She gets stoned and watches the squirrels steal our food.

I have a catnip plant in a pot. Might move it by the garden.

I have used a small soft bristle paint brush before. It kinda mimics the hair on bees that the pollens sticks to.

Here’s a few pics I took before the storm yesterday.

Roma’s

Cayenne. These are really starting to produce. The plants are very healthy.

Cajun Belle. Also starting to take off.

California Wonder. If you look at the top of the pic you can see a couple of bare stems. Squirrels got to it.

Celebrity plants. Making lots of blooms. Same with the Better Boys (on the stakes to the left), but they are lagging a little in growth compared to the Celebrity and Roma’s.

All of the Cajun Jewel okra have sprouted.

Knock on wood and all, but I have a ton of squirrels in and around my yard (oak trees on all three sides) and I've yet to have the furry little bastards mess with my garden.

The worst thing they do is sit on my deck and taunt my cats through the window.

First time growing beans in my raised garden. They are in one raise bed by themselves. They look okay but the leaves are more yellow than my tomatoes and corn in neighboring raised bed. Would a little high nitrogen fertilizer help or be harmful?

A little bit of nitrogen won’t hurt at all. Just don’t over do it. Apply it once every 2-3 weeks

PillageUrVillage

Details on how you built that raisedbed?

ETA: just saw your earlier post (I’m reading this thread backwards)

It looks great

I was at the homebrew/hydroponics store this morning and they had a fruit plant I'd never heard of: Tzimbalo Melon Pear . Picked one up just to see. Supposed to be a sweet and tart cucumber/melon thing. We'll see.

Got mine planted today, finally.

Yesterday’s weather sucked. Raining and a high of 47.

Got the chicken coop cleaned out and put all that in the garden. It was a years worth.

Also built a fence across part of the yard for the chickens.
