I saw some seed packets for that variety in Lowes. But I ordered some Cow's Horn seeds and one called Cajun Jewel. I'll throw in some Clemson Spineless too if I end up having some extra space.
Heck, I may have to expand the garden before I even get started.

I plant one 50 foot row every spring and pick enough okra for 5 of us to eat once a week and put a lot in the freezer, vacuum sealed fresh, and give away a lot of that helps you to determine how much to plant.

I grew this for the first time this year and it was great. The plants only get 6 feet or so instead of the 8+ feet of the cowhorn I had planted before.

Got some of my seeds incubating. Hopefully I'll see some sprouts over the weekend. Started tomatoes and peppers. I have Celebrity, Better Boy, and Supremo Roma for tomatoes. And I have California Wonder and Carmen peppers.
I also ordered some Paul Robeson tomato seeds. They are scheduled to be delivered this weekend. They will also be started as soon as I get them.

Started my tomato seeds today. Wanted to do it last week, but I've had a killer cold. Hope to start prepping my beds next weekend. San Marzano and Japanese Black Trifele are my favorites. I'll try Paul Robeson 1 more time. I just cant get them to produce much. The plant itself grows well.

I tried to start scraping the grass to expose the dirt yesterday. But it’s still too wet. I did a small section and gave up. Mud was caking up on all of my tools.
I stuck a shovel in the dirt and was glad to see that only a very small layer of clay soil was on top. The dirt about 3 inches down was pretty. Smelled pretty ripe, too. Lots of organic matter. So it’s a lot better than I expected.

I went to Harbor Freight and got a cement mixer. Coated the inside with fiberglass, painted outside black to absorb sun. That is my compost bin. I add my browns, then add all my kitchen scraps as I accumulate them. Just flip a switch and it turns it. Makes small batches pretty quickly.

That’s a neat idea. I may build a compost bin on the corner of my property. One thing at a time though.

Fried is good, but a healthier option, and very tasty is grilled okra.
Get the grill hot, hit the pods with a bit of olive oil, sea salt, black pepper and garlic powder and toss them to coat.
Grill just like any other vegetable and I guarantee you won't be sorry.

Been hacking away at removing the sod all week long. Finally got it all out yesterday. Not much daylight in the afternoons by the time I get home. I hate this time of year for that reason. 
Now it's time to start tilling. Gonna double dig since it's a virgin garden. That oughta be fun. Supposed to rain tomorrow, so more setbacks.
Meanwhile, my seeds are starting to sprout. So far maybe 20% have germinated. But, it's early. I expect more to pop up over the weekend.

All of my pepper seeds and tomato seeds are germinated. Everything looks healthy and I probably got about 90% germination overall. Tomatoes are a week behind the peppers.
I'm going to top some of my pepper seedlings this year. Trying it out on poblanos, hungarian hot wax, shishito, and jimmy nardello. I'm not going to top the bigger/bell varieties or the dwarf Mohawks/Redskins.

Do you use a heat mat for germinating seeds? I’ve been using a heat lamp and thermometer to monitor the temp. But the temp seems a little inconsistent. The pods in the middle of the tray are warmer than the ones on the outer edge. I need to just bite the bullet and get me a good heat mat I guess.

Yeah I do. This is the heat mat I use. Just got it last year but it's worked fine so far. I keep the heat mat on 24 hours a day until germination seems to be complete, then take it off.

I also used these for germinating last year/this year. They work really well until I pot the seedlings up in ~4-5 weeks. Kind of expensive but super convenient.

I couldn't tell you what the temperature of mine is. It's just on/off. It seems to work fine though.
