The old one was great because you could break it down so much. I was looking for something on the poli board using one key word "judges". I know this word was in the title of the thread I was looking for. I typed that into the new search and was getting results from every board over a random timeline (months and years) in no particular order. After wading through three pages I didn't see the thread I was looking for so I gave up. Note: I read said thread in the last 5-7 days.
Also, I liked the preview that the old search gave you. You could see the poster, time and date. And of course it was by board and in chronological order.
I just searched again and the thread I was looking for did come up on the first page twice and both were random posts from the second and third pages.
It's like the new search just throws up a bunch of random stuff and you have to find your way through it. Maybe you can put a new option to use the old search feature to search through the new search feature's results.

The old way was killing the server. The database is now huge and we can't have the old search scanning millions of records for one word.
Maybe in the future, we will come up with a better way, but right now we are placing a greater importance on server performance.

so you sacrifice an actual search feature this for a feature called "search" that turns out to just be a pain in the butt?
what if yall kept the last x amount of time able to search on the old way then everything beyond that date would have to be the new way.
note: i have no idea how computers and what not work but there's got to be a better way, no?

For years, we have been told that our search featured was terrible...and we agreed. Then we figured out that it became a performance hog.
We will definitely continue to refine the process...and maybe limit the old search to the last 24 hours of posts. It is a work in progress.

your first problem is you are searching for one word "Chicken"...the old search was only good for one word or EXACT phrases...google's search allows for multiple keywords.

I'm cool with either, but I thought the old search was very useful. Hell, it got me into the OT Arhcive Board. (wrong spelling and all)

Technically it takes longer than the .15s you claim. Yes, it spits out results in .15s but then you have to wade through the fat to find what you want.
