. I know they did away with name changes, i thought they reoped the process.

Name changes are usually granted when two names are very similar (outside of lsufan274747) or when the name reveals personal information. Just because you want a different name usually isn't enough to warrant a change. However, it sometimes happens randomly.
I don't have any direct say in name changes, but I can't help it if the powers that be value my opinion more than their own first born.
