I'll donate $1 million just to show my appreciation of this site... If I win of course.

Close

A few of the programs I use for work aren't supported by newer versions of windows. I have to use two different computers.

What are the requirements to visit said "Classics Board"?

I think you have to have at least 15k posts to qualify. It was raised to that amount several months ago. Those posts does not include posts made in IM threads like the LNST, GMT, and lunch threads because it's way too easy to rack up a gazillion posts in IM threads.

Here's an explanation on how the site sorts out the worthy posts from IM posts. It was posted a few months back. I forgot who posted it though.
quote:

This website is really just a publicly available database, held on a computer (server) somewhere else. There are tons of things that could be in this database that aren't visible to you.

To make this easier (since it's more familiar), let's think of an Excel spreadsheet: Picture a column for "username", "post", "board, "thread title", "replied to", "IPaddressOfPoster," "thread started (t/f)", "#postforposter." Each time you post, all this (again, an example of fields) information is filled in (though very little of it is actually publicly available).

Queries are run under particular circumstances, for instance: You can search "#postforposter" excluding "anything with GMT, LNST, or Lunch" in the title (you use regex to do this easily, but I'm not typing it up, as it's not particularly useful to the purpose of this exercise and would go entirely over your and most people's heads).

The query could be triggered to run every second, minute, hour, two hours, day, or each time a post is made (amongst others), giving a number for each poster kept in an "applied" database (if you will).

So, when you're logged in as you (assuming you have 15K posts), on the left side of the board, you get to see all of these boards + the regularly invisible Classics Board because the database says "PostsnotmadeinGMTLunchLNST>15000=True" and 'reveals' it to you.

Elaborate?

:jelly:

Was I right about needing 15k posts and how it does not include IM posts?
