computer help

ok..so i go to turn on my computer and i get the startup screen (ya know, the crap with the "start in safe mode", "start normally" and stuff like that)...well i try starting and both safe and normal mode and when windowns starts loading the screen goes black and just my mouse arrow is on screen and i eventually get taken right back to the start up screen
and advice on how to fix this?

wont start in safe mode...wont start in any mode
not porn overload...i have major internet protection...will dent me access if a virus or malware is present
it was working fine last night...and suddenly this morning windows wont load...i'll see if i can get some pics of whats happening

I've gotten computer help from some of them before. You r chances of catching an OTer that knows about computer rather than sarcasm right now is kind of slim.

Do you have a flash drive, iPod, camera, etc. plugged into any of the USB ports?

A couple possibilities:
Is your mouse USB? If so, switch it back to the original kind. Remove all non essential peripherals - even take it off-line. Get it down to just mouse, keyboard and monitor. Try to boot.
If that doesn't work, try to boot from your Windows XP (or whatever your platform is) disk. If it boots, that means your problem is most likely software, not hardware.
If that doesn't work, time to start with your hardware. Video card is a likely suspect because it's crashing out before it determines how big your monitor is and sizes the first scalable image (the blue background on the windows login screen. (or your desktop background if you don't need to login). Is the video output native to the motherboard? If not and you have an extra working video card, switch it out. If you get the same error, go back to the video card you had in originally. Remove your sound card, etc...
If none of that works, that leaves you with only a few possibilities: motherboard and power supply being high on the list.
That's about all I can suggest without more in-depth info on your system. I have to tell you - I'm no expert. I don't do this professionally - but I have a lot of friends who do and have learned a lot over the years. I have built a bunch of PCs completely from scratch and often diagnose and repair for friends. There's probably qualified advice somewhere on this board

all i know is that the microsoft pops up at the bottom of the screen and the bars go by like its loading...then the screen goes black and i can just see the mouse cursor
then the computer mkaes a noise like its doing something or booting and the computer just reboots

What kind of laptop is it and does it have a touch-pad? or do you have to use a mouse.
