Stop beating your head. Does it give an option to system restore? If so, don't use the most recent one, go back a checkpoint or two. If that doesn't work, turn it off and leave it alone. When you get back to wherever your Vista disk is, try booting from that.

It may be stuck in a "sleep mode" of sorts. Have you hit F12 for system start-up yet? There may be Power-save/timer feature there or an option on how to "wake" - Any key/mouse button/a specific key.... This may not jive with Vista's version of the same thing. Also, you said you just got a bunch of new anti-virus software. If there is a virus protection native to your bios/toshiba software, turn that off in setup as well.

EDIT: Has it remained plugged in this whole time? Cuz if you plugged it into a socket that doesn't work - your battery is dead - simple as that

Check that it's plugged into a working socket first. I'm going to laugh if it's that simple. I plugged mine into the wall, but the outlet didn't get power unless you flipped a lightswitch on. Woke up with dead computer once.

Enable wakeup on keyboard. Then make sure that outlet works. It could just be that your battery is dead.

And the outlet works if you plug something else into it? It could be plugged in all day and night, but if the outlet is crap, you just ran on battery all night...

Just had to ask. Windows Power saving settings will only allow a simple startup, not a full boot if you are under a certain percentage of battery, then return to sleep. It's a safety feature to prevent data loss due to sudden shut down, so i had to ask.
Yeah, leave it alone until you boot it with Vista.
