Yes. Also helps build the mid back and prevent pull-up related imbalances.

About 12yrs ago I developed some shoulder issues and the PT reviewed my workout program. His advice was “stop dangling so damn much” - turned out my mid back was weak even though I could knock out 18-20 strict pull-ups.

Dead hangs with scapular retraction. Negatives. Australian pull-ups/chin-ups. Ring rows. You’ll get it.
