Work out after hernia surgery

Anyone have experience with post hernia repair and exercise / working out after surgery? I primarily do HIIT training, and can go very low weight if needed but wondering if anyone has any feedback? I'm not having bi-lateral - just left side.

Had a hernia on my right side repaired. It took me about 6 weeks until I could get back on the treadmill and do any type of HIIT training on it. Mainly did a sprint, jog, walk. I started slow, 3 times week, and gradually worked my way up weekly (4 times a week, then 5 times a week, then went into light lifting).

Yeah I think I waited 6-8 weeks before I started working out again, and even then I could still feel some sensitivity sometimes.

You need to wait the 6-8 weeks. Even then you will feel weak on that side. If you want to push it, go ahead. Enjoy the 2nd surgery.

Listen to your doctor first and foremost, then your body. I was back in gym doing minimal core-activated movements within a week of my inguinal hernia surgery (which was performed 6-7 years after incurred injury power lifting in college, looked like egg / alien growing from inside me pre-op, and bone-headed now that I look back). Also was diagnosed with testicular cancer few years after that, had surgery to remove said part, and inguinal hernia recovery was worse. Hernia involved mesh insertion, whereas latter was clean-cut with no foreign insertions.
Once you return, low weights and nothing that requires quick activation of core. Start with lunges or tempo air squats if do anything for lower body since you do HIIT. Maybe jump rope after that then slowly add weight-bearing load.

Why not ask your Doctor who did the surgery instead of posting on an internet site?

Low hernia. Had to lay off a month. Then slowly work back up
Most important thing to do for that surgery is first chance you are able, ride the bike even if only five or ten minutes. Just do what you can stand but don't push it.
Next day half the soreness will be gone
