“Whoop” Fitness Band

Any of y’all used this?
It’s a wearable band that is designed to be worn 24/7 and it feeds data to an app on your phone.
Tracks heart rate variability, Resting heart rate, sleep and more. It also learns your daily “strain” from working out or stress and offers coaching on ways to increase recovery and sleep based on actual data from your band.

Thinking of trying it out, all these wearables are the future of fitness and this is the most innovative one I’ve seen. Payment model is different too since it’s a monthly subscription.

I had one for six months. I liked it but then it started stressing me out.

It’s been getting pushed pretty hard the last year
They offer you the band for free but frick paying a month subscription to tell how recovered I am.

“Strain score” sounds like an excuse to skip the gym

You don’t skip. You just decrease the work load or do some sort of active recovery.

Did you feel that actually helped you? I’ve been on the fence about getting one of these bc I am a data nerd. But like you said with it stressing you out, sometimes I feel like I way over analyze things.

Any good program or coach can teach you how to manage workload, with weight %, what % effort you put out and general tapering when needed.
That and just listen to your body
If you go balls to the wall every time in CrossFit, power lifting, body building or any form fitness you will always eventually plateau and hit it hard with shitty recovery.

I would see that as more motivation to sleep better that is data driven, not necessarily as a reason to skip the gym. If the numbers are telling you you aren’t recovering I wouldn’t change my workout I would change my sleep and recovery habits.

I think that is the whole point of this band. Everyone always says “listen to your body” but there are days you sleep 9 hours and still feel like crap at the gym and there are other days where you randomly feel like you could max out on everything. I wish I could identify patterns for why that happens. They are trying to give you data points to help you match “feelings” with science, or at least that’s what I can gather from what I’ve read on it so far.

It will attempt to force you to sleep more and drink less. Life gets in the way and all of a sudden I was stressing out because I was always in the yellow or red. It didn’t stop me from working out. Some days I felt great and I was in the red and some days I felt like shite and I was in the green. For the most part it was fairly accurate.

Got you. I’m leaning towards pulling the trigger; I figured there were some more tech savvy folks on here that had experience with this thing. Thanks for the feedback.

$30 a month is bit much. If it was $15 I would jump on it. But I'm also not working full time. By the time i finish grad school i may jump on one.
