I played baseball, football, and ran track in high school, but if we're being honest, I was average at best, and more interested in getting drunk and chasing tail than winning games The track chicks were usually pretty hot...

So, while I was technically a multi sport athlete, you are correct that I have no clue what its like to be a multi sport athlete and actually focus on getting better.

I used to eat two McDonalds McDoubles for lunch.

Tossed the buns on one and made it a quadruple.

i wasnt anything special eitehr. but now a day to be a high level athlete it takes either a shite load of god given talent or you are going to have to work your arse off.

i think parents way way underestimate these things.

for example as a qb you better be doing a ton of things to get better at throwing hard, practicing foot work, stduying film, even in the offseason an hour a day. then on top of that you should be doing a throwers lifitng program and speed work

baseball is prolly the worst, especially if you are a pitcher and fielder. you have to be on top of your shite as you will have to be doing some form of the following

hitting lessons min once a week plus some form of a bat speed program or online programming

pitching lessons- some form of pitching on the mound plus weighted ball or long toss program depending on where you are in your development

field- working glove drills 3 times a week to improve, twice to maintain. more if needed

lifting- off season is 3-4 times weekly plus 2-3 days speed work. in season is 2x weekly plus primer sessions as needed

arm car is daily

that is a shite load of calories burned just for a baseball player.

olineman are doing 3-4 days lifting, 3 days speed work plus the oline performance stuff that has become so big so....3-4 days of footwork in the offseason

dline is similar to oline

basketball is a little different but you have jump training 4 days a week plus normal skill training 5-6 days a week

not saying all are doign this, but the best are. and it take a shite load of food and sleep to fuel this type of activity.

some of you guys have to get off this chicken kick. we arent talking about a bodbyuilder going into a contest. same with the carbs and fats red meat, especially ground beef and white rice along with eggs, should make up the majority of his calories.

I mean…that’s fine to have that opinion. But to act like it’s the only reasonable opinion to have seems arrogant and douchey.

“You guys have to get off this chicken kick”. It’s not a kick. It is proven and it works. It’s cheap protein, it’s lean, it’s great. The diet you offer up involves a high schooler eating a pound and a half of ground beef, a dozen eggs, and a 12 oz steak every day. And then you’ve got the gall to, in the same post, tell people that they’re over complicating things and not taking into consideration what is realistic for a high school teenager to do.

Lemme break something to you, it’s not realistic for a high school teenager to have a 12oz steak every night and eat ground beef meals at school.

The first thing I said in my post was that hitting calories was priority one. I said the kid should eat three pieces of cafeteria pizza every day.

I don’t know why you are this red meat white knight but you lay it on a little thick. Cool to offer your opinion, not sure why you feel the need to bash others. I’m not saying your diet won’t work. I am saying that what I offered up absolutely will work.

Well I dint mean to come off arrogant or douche, for that I apologize.

My point was not that red meat is some mythical food, although it is the best source of protein, it's that he doesn't need to worry about eating lean meats, quite the opposite.

And yes I realize a steak a night isn't realistic. The point was about how much food it really takes. A pound of chicken thighs and a bunch of baby red potatoes works along with a bunch of other combos.

I disagree 100% though about the ground beef comment. Most high schools and even middle schools have microwaves to use. If not thermos work great to pack hot meals. And it very much is realistic, hell wendler snd plenty of hs strength coaches have their kids make a bunch of 6oz hamburger patties and throwing in tupaware with rice and bring 2-3 to school a day.

And yea it is realistic to eat 1lbs of red meat and a dozen eggs a day.

For most kids some thing like this is very realistic

Breakfast- huge meal with eggs, meat, carb source. So like 8 eggs, bacon, sausage or ground beef, and a bowl of oatmeal

Snack- rtd protein drink between classes

Lunch- hamburger helper made with double the beef. So like 8oz ground beef in each serving. So a box would be 2 lbs beef and would be 4 servings.

Right after school- 6-8 hamburger patty over rice

After workout- pwo shake

Dinner- 3 grilled chicken thighs and 8-12 baby red potatoes

Bedtime- big protein shake

OP I suggest buying eating thick by ppsa

Also look at the diets I posted above from wendler. Before you listen to any of us, myself included cause we are all dumbasses compared to wendler and Aaron Ausmus, listen to them and what they are posting from working with large amounts of real athletes daily.

Also, it’s not all or nothing. If he isn’t eating three square meals a day, then start there. If he’s eating pop tarts for breakfast then switch to eggs, oatmeal, and peanut butter. Real foods.

If he’s already eating pretty good foods at normal eating times, then have him double his portions.

4 eggs for breakfast is better than what most kids are getting. So don’t get overwhelmed if 8 eggs for breakfast seems like too much at first. Like anything else consistency is king. Eating good for a year will do more for him than eating perfectly for a week.

Amazing how far things have come for teenagers. As a high school "athlete" trying to bulk for football back in the late 80s, I'd make a shake with 2 carnation instant breakfasts, a half a carton of ice cream, and like 6 eggs after school every day. Definitely not "clean" but it was effective.

Maybe he should go with the Gaston diet and eat 4 dozen eggs every morning to help him get large.
