Probably going to start out with 8/16 protocol, probably 6a-2p to start because we usually cook a group breakfast at work every morning. If I start getting too many hunger pains at night, I may adjust it back to 10a-6p. Was considering a 24hr fast every 3rd day, that one sounds pretty tough to me. Was also going to cut out breads and pasta too. I'd be happy if I could drop 15lbs or so during Lent. I dropped 30lbs about a year ago, but have been stuck on a plateau since. I haven't really changed my diet much, though. I don't want to go full Keto, but I don't mind paleo.

Any HFB baws do intermittent fasting? What's your preferences?

I started in 2012 and haven't stopped. You'll notice that it starts to become a normal routine after the first week or two although my eating period is much later in the day which allows for social events in the evenings and weekends.

I stick to 18/6 but I've been all over the place at times

Try it out.

If I were to move my feast period back to say 11a-7p, can I have coffee in the morning? That’s why I went with the earlier morning period, because I would not be able to go without caffeine in the morning with how early I get up for work.

If it’s just one cup usually it’s fine and not considered breaking the fast. Anything over that or adding creamer is considered breaking the fast. If you have time go listen to some of Dr. Rhonda Patrick’s video’s.

Bottom line is if you keep it close to your feeding window it’s negligible to an extent.

Joe Rogan

I did find this video with several guests of Joe Rogan that talk about time restricted eating or intermittent fasting. I've been researching it more, and I think I'm going to push my eating time farther back in the day, like start at 11am to 7pm. I started at 6:15am this morning, so I'll have to wait till tomorrow to push it back a couple hours. I'll work it back gradually, like I'll try to wait till 8 or 9a tomorrow. From what I've read, black coffee has minimal caloric value, so I don't think a cup of joe in the morning will hurt my fast period.

LINK

Those are some great excerpts and I'm linking some video's of Dr. Patrick and Dr. Panda both who go more into detail of time restricted eating.

like start at 11am to 7pm

Something around then is your best bet to stick to it as you can still eat lunch at a normal time and your last meal will keep you full until the morning.

In terms of coffee one or two cups in the morning isn't going to change anything drastically for you either way. Diet and calories will have a much greater factor.

For those that are interested, I started using an IF app called Zero. It has timers and trackers on it that will send you notifications and reminders on when your fasts are supposed to start and finish. It also tracks your fasting stats like average fast times, etc. Pretty helpful so far.

6a-2p was really hard for my first fast. I started shifting my fast time back so I can do 11a-7p. That's more doable so I can eat dinner with family instead of just drooling the whole time.

Good to hear man. If you stick to that later eating window it'll be much easier when eating dinner with the family, going out, etc...

Depending on your work schedule you may even decide to push the hours back unless you go to bed pretty early.

I'm a little late to this thread but I have been working out the kinks to my 16-8 daily fast. What I mean is making sure I don't break my fast unintentionally and getting in enough calories. I tend to not be hungry at all after a couple of days.

Do the intermittent fasting. I have gotten pretty dialed in and I feel great. Weight is falling off at a pace that I have set. It's pretty incredible.
