I think you're overestimating the average person's willpower

To be fair, people's lives set up different types of hurdles to get through.

Single guy in 20's-30's with a steady 9-5 type job? There's really no dietary hurdle you shouldn't be able to cross easily. "There were donuts in the lunchroom" should not be something you can't willpower yourself through.

Married father of 3 and your wife is a baker? Travel for work (including foreign)and you're not the one in charge of meal planning?

(Holding a restricted eating window in England seems to be a challenge for me - team dinners usually every night, and they want to serve nothing but carb heavy lunches during the day so I end up skipping lunch and loading up on eggs at the hotel breakfast)

Lack of willpower may equal "lazy" or it may equal "yeah, you'd have to be pretty strong to maintain willpower in that situation", you just don't know without knowing the rest of that person's life.

Question about your snakejuice. I've been hitting the keto hard since this weeken... made some of the juice and drink a little throughout the day (not a whole lot). I've developed a serious case of the hershey squirts. Looking up info I'm seeing that increasing electrolytes is recommended. But I saw where you posted this:

quote:

If you are starting to have frequent diarrhea pull back the snake juice some.

So do I need more electrolytes (juice) or should I stop drinking it until I adjust to keto?

Elaborate

It absolutely killed my athletic endurance. I train BJJ 5x a week, lift weights, run, bike, and I noticed a steep drop, especially while training bjj. I could normally go 6-8 rounds no problem, but I was gassing out fast.

That was 90 days in and I read that it can sometimes take 6 months to a year to get fully keto adapted. At the 6 month mark, I finally gave in and went to my current diet, which is basically low carb (only starchy carbs I eat are around workouts). Almost immediately my endurance shot up and I felt invincible when I would go for runs.

For me, a low carb diet is easier to maintain and I don't suffer from any athletic performance issues. I am 12-15% body fat and feel great.

Another thing that killed me on keto was how hard it was to eat with my job. I am at client lunches and dinners all the time and eating the same keto approved meals out got super old.

I think it's a great strategy for people looking to lose body fat (it may be the safest and fastest way).

This was a major factor for me.

How much ketoaid are you drinking when you say not a whole lot? If it’s more than 24oz or so you might need to ease into it. Unless you are having headaches and lethargy issues dial back the juice some and see if they liquid shits subsides.

I guess you are lucky because most people who first start Keto are constipated and/or don’t shite for 5-7 days at a time.

Are you also taking MCT oil? How about artificial sweeteners such as erythritol, xylitol, etc? All the above can cause what you are experiencing.

For someone in your shoes I would recommend CKD or TKD.

Want to do a funny office prank, but a huge bag of sugar free gummy bears and put them out in the lunch room, watch in amazement.

Your points are fair. I painted with a broad brush. There are always excuses, though some are better than others.

Definitely less than 24oz. I made some juice when I started but haven't really experienced any of the symptoms you described (hunger, fatigue, etc) so I've only sipped a couple of ounces here and there just in case.

I don't ever remember being constipated in my life. If I don't shite at least 2 or 3 times a day something's wrong.

The only MCT I know of is from the coconut oil. I've been doing the 2 tablespoons a day.

As for artificial sweeteners, I have been using Mio in my water sometimes... but not that much. Trying to stay away from diet sodas so I have a couple of waters each day with 2 squirts of Mio.

Really you should probably be starting to level off at this point. I never had a problem with anything ketosis but I've always drank a lot of water. And doing ketosis I still eat a big (like 5oz or so of leafy greens), green leafy salad once a day normally. It gives you a bunch of potassium and helps your liver process the fat out of the body.

Of course we are all different and have to find what works best for each of us.

This is probably the cause! Two tablespoons a day is a lot for someone less than one week into the diet. Personally I don’t even take more than one tablespoon a day.

Make sure you get the Mio with stevia and not sucralose. Sucralose while safe on the Keto diet does cause som blood sugar issues in a small population. Overall stevia is a much better sweetener. Obviously stay away from diet sodas with aspartame and acesulfame potassium.

Give Zevia a shot. I personally love their cream soda flavor.

No squirts today... hopefully it has passed. I enjoy leafy greens as well but try to keep it really low.

I'll back off to 1 tablespoon. The main reason I was doing it was to bump up my fats (I'm having a problem with too much protein and not enough fat... tracking with Carb Manager app).

For dinner last night I was already maxed out on protein and behind on fat so I ate half an avocado, 2 oz of cream cheese, and 2 tbsp of coconut oil.

Where do you buy this?

This is not necessary and all the extra fiber might actually be harming you.

No one is advocating green leafy vegetables on that scale minus a YouTube personality who’s a Scientologist and a chriopractor who IMO is purposely misleading people by referring to himself as Dr. (I understand he is a DC much like my wife is a Dr because she’s a DPT)

Here’s a study showing the positive effects of lowering fiber...

quote:

Stopping or reducing dietary fiber intake reduces constipation and its associated symptoms

quote:

AIM: To investigate the effect of reducing dietary fiber on patients with idiopathic constipation.

METHODS: Sixty-three cases of idiopathic constipation presenting between May 2008 and May 2010 were enrolled into the study after colonoscopy excluded an organic cause of the constipation. Patients with previous colon surgery or a medical cause of their constipation were excluded. All patients were given an explanation on the role of fiber in the gastrointestinal tract. They were then asked to go on a no fiber diet for 2 wk. Thereafter, they were asked to reduce the amount of dietary fiber intake to a level that they found acceptable. Dietary fiber intake, symptoms of constipation, difficulty in evacuation of stools, anal bleeding, abdominal bloating or abdominal pain were recorded at 1 and 6 mo.

RESULTS: The median age of the patients (16 male, 47 female) was 47 years (range, 20-80 years). At 6 mo, 41 patients remained on a no fiber diet, 16 on a reduced fiber diet, and 6 resumed their high fiber diet for religious or personal reasons. Patients who stopped or reduced dietary fiber had significant improvement in their symptoms while those who continued on a high fiber diet had no change. Of those who stopped fiber completely, the bowel frequency increased from one motion in 3.75 d (± 1.59 d) to one motion in 1.0 d (± 0.0 d) (P < 0.001); those with reduced fiber intake had increased bowel frequency from a mean of one motion per 4.19 d (± 2.09 d) to one motion per 1.9 d (± 1.21 d) on a reduced fiber diet (P < 0.001); those who remained on a high fiber diet continued to have a mean of one motion per 6.83 d (± 1.03 d) before and after consultation. For no fiber, reduced fiber and high fiber groups, respectively, symptoms of bloating were present in 0%, 31.3% and 100% (P < 0.001) and straining to pass stools occurred in 0%, 43.8% and 100% (P < 0.001).

CONCLUSION: Idiopathic constipation and its associated symptoms can be effectively reduced by stopping or even lowering the intake of dietary fiber.

Kerrygold, cheese, mayonnaise are your friends here.

You buy zevia at your grocery store. I normally see it next to the IBC Root beer.

Are leafy greens not recommended? I buy the 50/50 mix from Fresh Express (spring mix & spinach). It's a 5.5 oz bag and I probably use about 1 oz per day bc I like salads. I usually put a tiny amount of sugar free Italian on it and that's it.

I love all 3 of those. I have been trying to add more butter to everything... and cheese.

No it’s fine to eat. It is not necessary however. The majority of the public thinks you have to have an insane amount of fiber which isn’t true especially on a ketogenic diet.

You can also help bump up some fats with your dressing instead of using Italian go for a blue cheese or Roquefort.

I freaking LOVE blue cheese. I didn't even think about that.

Had some Kraft Roka blue cheese dressing in the fridge at work.
12 g fat
1 g carb
0 g protein

Hell yes.
