About 10 years ago I was training at Gold's Gym in Scottsdale and this cat asked me to spot him doing squats. Very quirky guy, he was very direct about how he wanted me to spot him and came across dickish. He put on his weightbelt and I noticed "Platz" stenciled on the back. I think he only had 225 on the bar but went arse to the grass and used perfect form. We chatted a little but, I told him I remember him from Muscle and Fitness and other mags back in the day. I recall he looked jaundiced and I thought I read he may have had some serious health issues at one time. I spoke with him a few times after that and he was definitely a different dude but very intelligent. He also wore the same thing in the gym every workout- gray sweats like the SNL characters.

Very cool story
He definitely seems that way in the old videos online. Seemed a little crazy also and very intense. It reminds me of Jay Cutler quote about being a little mental to do what they do
