frick the hook grip, double overhand with chalk for me. Thumbs are hurt from sports growing up, no way I would put that kind of tension on them.

That was a great description of the deadlift by the way. Only tip I can give you didn't cover, is hump the fricking bar. I mean throw the hips like it's your last thirst ever once you start the rise. Do this and the rest of the body will follow.

LE great post in the thread.

hook grip is a game changer. It wont be comfortable over night, though.
I just couldn't handle this. Hurt my thumbs so bad. Wish I could get used to it. I do alternating grip with chalk

Ya it's super uncomfortable for everyone but I'm telling a few weeks training it and you don't even feel it. It's a legitimate game changer and you're leaving weight on the table without it. I understand that isn't important to all tho. If you feel the bar slipping around 85%-90 it may we worry trying. It would improve your top end numbers either way

Alternating grip is good too. I have issues with one shoulder that makes my arm length somewhat uneven when I alternate.

I feel like most normal people could do the other 4

I doubt most people can run a mile without at least some rest. Even back in middle school I remember some kids couldn't. You got to remember a large portion of Americans do little to no exercise so they can't just go out there and run a mile nonstop.

I think I can deadlift double my wight (I weigh 215 currently), but I choose not to. I am not entirely comfortable with my form, so I try not to over-do it. Deadlift is my least favorite lift. Form has gotten better, but I still struggle with it at times and don't want to risk injury (I have hurt myself before doing this). Thankfully I never really have to do more than 225 at most for workouts. I prefer workouts where its around 155-185 for it.
