Might be a long shot, but anyone ever experience styes developing with the more cardio completed? I’m 33 and have been running for the better part of a decade, but within the past 5 years have increased daily/weekly mileage a great deal. Since November I’ve had 2 areas on my right eye develop a stye. 1st one went away with hot compress; current one (above right eyelid) is pretty big. Have started hot compress recently on area. I do have an eye appointment on 4/1. Just thought I’d ask if anyone here has dealt with this.

A stye develops due to a clogged oil gland. The warm compresses should help. Try doing them 2-3 times a day. Also try using some baby shampoo and washing your eyelids with it. Don’t try to pop it… it’ll just cause more issues.
If it doesn’t go away, or gets worse, a simple in office procedure can be done to drain it. They usually give you antibiotic ointment or drops to use afterward.
The increased mileage probably isn’t contributing to it, although sweat can cause the glands to clog. Hence the baby shampoo. Unfortunately, as we age the oil produced tends to get thicker and these things happen.

Have only had one style in my life. The ophthalmologist told me to use hot compresses 10 times a day. It eventually went away.

Haven’t heard of the baby shampoo to use but will give it a try. Appreciate the responses.

I’ve worked in ophthalmology for 22+ years. I’ve learned a trick or two along the way. The baby shampoo helps keep the bacteria to a minimum. The stye forms from trapped bacteria. :)

My husbands was so large I was afraid it would explode. Seriously. He went to the eye doc and she lanced it .. she told me she was surprised that it hadn’t popped.

Returned a couple of years later but he got it seen about much earlier.

Warm compress didn’t help even when caught early.

I have one currently and have a dr appt for Monday. Been having this one for over 2 months. I have used baby shampoo religiously. Still get them occasionally. The OTC cream called STYE helps.

I had one that got big! Every where I read says don’t pop it. Dr said it was too infected to cut, and to come back in 2 weeks to see the lid specialist after antibiotics. I wasn’t waiting 2 weeks, I went home and popped it with a sterile needle. Not a lot came out, but I must of created a little weep hole, because swelling went down next day, no pain. I did start using antibiotic eye ointment at the same time.

Had multiple chazalions that had to be removed. Those were miserable times.

For some reason they only occurred during one year of my life and never returned. Strange.

What was the procedure? Interested to see if it develops again or cured.

Had a bad one about 6 years ago and ended up burning my eyelid with the compress. My eye looked awful for a few months, it seemed like forever to heal up. Had another one develop shortly after on my other eye, but thankfully the compress method worked.

Thankfully none since.

This doctor did it differently and so far I’m not satisfied. They gave me a deadening shot in the lid then after about 5 minutes, came back and cut it from the outside. Last times I had the lid flipped and excised from the inner lid. It’s still not feeling normal. If by Monday it’s not looking much better, I’ll go for a follow up. Been putting hot compresses still. This is a pain in the arse.
