Hey guys, first time posting here but want to get some real advice. I’ve gained around 30 lbs the last 1.5 years due to quarantine eating and drinking and I’m pretty fed up. I keep starting the 75 Hard app and getting into the 20-30 day mark before quitting only to balloon back up to my start weight. I really would love some diet and motivation advice if possible.

I’m starting boxing classes tomorrow and they’re pretty legit, I’m drenched by the end and my coach is damn good. I started my new job last week after being unemployed for a longtime due to covid layoffs and finally am getting a consistent sleep/daily schedule going.

I want to know what tips you guys have for kicking drinking, eating like shite, and being consistent for long periods of time, especially coming off of the layoff slump.

Thanks guys.

Eat and drink whatever you want and do the class 5-6 times before committing to anything else. The class will naturally motivate your mind to not undo all your exercise by eating junk.

This will help you more than you know.
Get 7-8 hours of sleep if possible. The more the better. That’s when your body repairs muscle fibers (gain muscle) and burns calories (lose weight).

Diet is the key to success and success takes months to years depending on your goals. What worked for me, lost 40 pounds and started gaining muscle after:
Start with small changes to the diet.
No more sugar in anything you drink.
Tons of protein, mine is mainly from shakes but eat as much lean meat as you can.
For consistency: do something every day to help you achieve your goals. Once I could do it all daily, I started to sky rocket but if I did too much too soon, I would fall off. I always have a cheat day also. That’s helps me stay on track and look forward to something.

Do you cook yourself?
If so, go to the grocery store and purchase on the edges of the store.
Fresh.
Get rid of crap in the house. It’s frustrating when I don’t have chips or ice cream but not as bad as having that 50 pounds back.
Exercise is great but you can’t lose weight without a diet change.
You could also look at a program like weight watchers to help you keep track of what you eat and alert you to the problem foods.

Go to Walmart yourself once a week and buy healthy unprocessed foods. Don't bring junk food in the house and then you can't eat it. Pay attention to the disgusting slobs in Walmart who are buying oreos, orange Fanta, and potato chips and realize that you don't want to be like them

Maybe try 75 medium. Do 1 exercise session a day instead of 2 and pick a diet that isn’t crazy restrictive. It’s like putting a new qb in the game, you gotta start him off with some easy completions to build confidence.

This is just my opinion as everyone is different but I was kinda in the same boat as you except I began my ~30 pound weight loss when quarantine began. I think 75 hard is not a great way to kickstart a routine. It brings on the all or nothing mindset which is the total wrong way to think of it. This mindset is what always killed me for doing it before last year. It should be more of small lifestyle changes that push you towards a more overall healthy lifestyle. I used to say well I have a birthday party coming up next weekend so I’m not going to start yet. There are always things. It’s life. Staying with my workout routine, staying pretty healthy, and then having a slice of cake at a friend’s birthday shouldn’t be a reason to quit. Staying with an 80/20 mindset is a way better look at it and more motivation than saying wow I will never be able to have a slice of cake again. Sleep is also such a pertinent thing to a great lifestyle health change.

I’ve lost 30lbs by counting macros and working out 3-4 times a week. I used a macro calculator on bodybuilding and tweaked the percentages of carbs fats and proteins. I’m the lowest I’ve been in 20 years probably and it doesn’t feel like a diet. You can be surprised of what you can fit in as long as you keep it in moderation. I use my fitness pal to log my stuff. Good luck to you
