Straining calf

I am 38 and trying to get back into shape. I go early and lift. I usually get there before my workout partner so I like to get some cardio to get the heart pumping and loosen up before starting to lift. Over the past couple months, while jogging before lifting, I have strained my right calf 3 different times. I grew up playing soccer and baseball. I was always running. What can I do to avoid this? Have I reached the part of my life where I have to stretch to warm up to work out? Could doing some yoga possibly help?

Might try to get a ball of some sorts and massaging your foot muscles and stretching your calves. Possibly need to work on mobility of the ankle.

Get a slant board (even if just cheap foam) and use it to stretch out the calves.

yes you are going to have to stretch and warm up.

I am 40 and strained my calf about 4 months ago. I think it was the type that takes 4-6 weeks to completely heal. I tweaked it several times due to not taking the full time off.
It seemed to be getting much better but will have a little soreness after playing basketball for too many games. It tweaked again about two weeks ago.
I read somewhere that it takes times for the injury (scar tissue?) to fully work itself out of the calf. Does anyone know if these 'tweaks' are generally good for the calf (working itself out) or bad (adding to it)? Each tweak seems to be less severe than the previous one.
