My teen son has had pain while squatting the past month. He says it hurts below his butt and high in the hamstring. Do you think it could be form or maybe an aggravation from being too tight? I know it's tough without seeing but just curious if anyone has dealt with a similar injury.

No one will be able to say for sure, but i bet he's compensating for immobile hips causing the pain in the SI joint

He does look like he has anterior pelvic tilt. Are there some exercises to try to see if its hips?

How old is he?

Do you have a foam roller? I’d attempt to roll out his glute & then the hamstrung

Look up a pigeon pose. That’s my favorite hip opener & is good for that posterior area

He’s 15 and we went to orthopedic doctor and said hamstring strain. He wants him to stop lower body exercises for a month and do some therapy.

That’s great, now tell your doctor to see if he can figure out what caused it in the first place. Tell your doctor to not only treat it, but to help you understand how to prevent it from happening again.

It honestly could be as simple as "growing pains", but I would get him to a physical therapist. Ortho's main objective in most cases is to operate or not operate. A physical therapist will help you diagnose what the cause of the issue is from a physiological stand point.

We took him to PT and they are doing dry needling and also having him do three sets of exercises three times a day. I'm hoping this goes away after a month of lifting and running off.

Would you say that he is in the middle of a growth spurt?

I don’t think so. He’s 6 feet and fully through puberty. He’s been consistent at this height for six months.
