He says this as if it's somehow surprising. Cleveland actually has some pretty solid restaurants. It shouldn't be surprising that he found something good to eat there.

Quality tallow is definitely a lot more expensive than industrial soybean oil, but you can def deep fry in it and re-use it even. Man, it tastes better.
