Which deadlift variation do you guys think has the better carryover to conventional deadlifts? RDLs hit hamstrings really hard, while strict helps with hip drive. Is one better suited than the other? Does it just depend on the lifter’s needs and goals? I do RDLs right now, but I want to hear from your opinions on the issue.

I always thought that was just a deadlift. TnG is the variation, IMO.

Stiff leg deads. I was taught strict and the term stuck.

What are you trying to accomplish? You want accessory moves to assist with your traditional deadlifts? I do RDLs and SLDLs on leg days and conventional deads on back (or pull) days. RDLs can help with your hip hinge. SLDLs I like for really stretching the hamstrings. If you're just trying to increase your traditional deadlift, I'd find the sticking spot and train for that. Trouble with the initial pull from the ground? Do deficit deadlifts. Trouble with lock out at the top? Do heavy rack pulls.

I think my biggest problem right now is driving my hips through the bar. I have been working on my form and fixed my setup. I’ll just keep doing RDLs then.

Ah.

I'd say the answer has a lot to do with your weakness. The traditional SLDL is off the floor and will build power in the hips and hams off the floor better than RDL's.

RDL's are better if you're keeping decent position but lose speed and power around the knees. Because the movement is focused top down, you'll build a lot of power for that portion of the movement.

Ultimately, it's where you need the power boost.

If you have never done rack pulls, I highly recommend them.

I bought the Bartos Contrast Platform.

I tried isometrics for a while. Now I'm doing negative accentuated deads. It blows up my back and core and is helping my stability off the floor a ton. It's pricey, but it was a good Christmas present.
