Got a hernia in the groin, right side. How long till I will be up and about, walking, etc?

You’ll be walking day of but not far.
Don’t lift anything heavy. 8 weeks for full recovery. Don’t even try to speed it up. You don’t want to go through it again by being stupid. Just take the time off.

Fun fact: men are more inclined for inguinal hernias because our testies have to descend through the inguinal canal which widens it.

I have an Inguinal Hernia, Hip Impingement with bone spurs, and a torn labrum. Getting it fixed in the next 5 weeks.
Like most injuries every recovery with be different. So many variables that lead to when u will be back lifting.
Good luck with your surgery. Have patience and follow your doctor's guidelines. You will be back before you know it.

Had one repaired couple years ago. First two days sucked but gets a lot better each day after that. If you have a recliner or power recliner I recommend staying in that the first 24 hours or so. It hurts just sitting up using your abdomen muscles at first.

The other "enjoyable" thing is the anesthesia causes constipation but you can't really strain those muscles down there to force thru it.

The first 2 days following surgery may be an issue (getting up from a chair had me bent over like an old man), but after that, you should be good. I didn't work out for a month or so.

I had a double hernia repaired about 15 years ago and it was done with just three small incisions to allow the surgeon to repair them without much tissue damage.
It was an in and out procedure where I went into the hospital around 6 a.m. and was heading home around noon.
I had no real issues other than a little abdominal soreness but I was walking and doing things around the house the same day. Nothing heavy mind you, but up on my feet moving around easily.
My only restriction was to not lift anything heavy for a week or so.
ETA: My surgery was laparoscopic and not a full incision one. They only cut me with 3 very small holes, 2 in my lower abdomen and one in the navel. One was for a camera so they could see the damage and do the repair. one was for gas to inflate the abdomen away from any organs to better see the inner wall and one was for the tools of the surgical repair. At least that was my understanding of how it was performed.

I also remember just coughing or laughing would hurt at first.
