Random Thoughts: Trying to keep consistency with life’s obstacles

Recently we moved from southern California to northern Illinois. The permanent winter cloud layer plus the cold weather really sucks the energy out of you. Takes a lot more self motivation to get moving than with the consistent 75 and sunny that pulls you outside. (Into your garage gym)
My heated garage gym with extremely bright LED lights is a life saver.
Furthermore, we recently just had our second child over the weekend. It was difficult to lift during the first few weeks with #1, but especially more difficult with #2. With #1 I could catch naps when he slept, but with #2 when he naps often #1 is up. I’m even more sleep deprived and more busy. Monday night I lifted from 10:00pm to 11:30pm because it was the only time I found. (And further cut in my sleep)
All in all, it’s much more difficult to stay on task but also more rewarding to do so. A home gym is a huge advantage.

I didn’t say it came as a surprise.

I don't know about permanent winter cloud layer, that doesn't seem normal. But the cold sapping your energy is surprising. I think it feels energizing. In the cold everything is clean and quiet, no bugs and the air even tastes better. What is a bummer is when it is slightly above freezing and no snow. Cold rain sucks.

The winter grey skies along with the short amount of daylight along with bitter cold makes it very hard to get motivated. Seasonal affective disorder is a real thing and a lot of folks are Vitamin D deficient at this time of year. Not everyone is affected in the same manner and some actually enjoy this cold weather.
I absolutely hate it and can’t wait to get back to Texas.

I live in Ohio - feel your pain when talking about the gross weather.
Also have 2 young ones. The first couple of weeks are hard to get much accomplished, mainly for the reason you stated with naps not aligning. After a couple of weeks the little one will get onto a schedule and things will get easier. It just takes time.
You should prioritize your sleep and nutrition during this time. You also don't need to do one big workout during the day. Find 10-15 min to hammer out some squats. You don't need to train for 1.5 hrs when you should be sleeping to send a signal to your body.
Good luck!

Start lifting in the early morning once the newborn starts sleeping more regularly. You have an at home gym, which is optimal. Right now just get it in where you can. I’ve always hit the gym early before my wife and baby wake up. My gym is only 10 mins away, and there is no traffic at 4:45 am. No one will need me that early, and I’m usually home by 6:30 or 7, which gives me time to get ready for the work day.
