Anyone ever feel like they strained something in their throat from lifting?? Today I was bench-pressing (a heavy set, but nothing that required a crazy amount of strain) and I felt a twitch in my throat and behind my ear. I shrugged it off during the next few sets thinking it would go away, but it didn't and it is a strange, but familiar pain. It's almost as if I have a painful sore throat, but it is the area right behind my throat. It hurts behind my ear as well, but mostly when I turn to that side. Hoping it's a mild strain, but just curious if this has ever happened to anyone else?

Let me preface this by saying that I am absolutely not a doctor and this is just my experience, but I’ve had a spit gland clog up before and I experienced similar symptoms to what you’re describing. If it’s in the soft space between the point of your jaw and your side neck muscle and you feel swelling then it could be that

Pretty good chance you’ve junked up your scalene or sternomoclastoid (sp) from benching.
This is common, often from gazing down/flexing neck during bench bracing sequence. Can refer pain to back of neck and even into arms.

I’m planning to just monitor it and make sure the pain doesn’t get any worse. Hoping it’ll resolve itself in a week or two.

Tell your spotter to back off a bit. Maybe a safe word...
