I'm assuming that this is within the board guidelines so I figured I'd share my review of this product as it may be something that would interest some of you or be convenient for you so long as it fits in with what you're trying to do nutritionally.

I decided I was going to force myself to start eating breakfast which is why I gave this product a try. Whether or not breakfast is important is debatable depending on what nutrition philosophy you subscribe to. We'll leave that to a separate discussion.

So about the product - it's essentially just a packet that you mix with 8 oz of milk or milk substitute and it comes in 3 different flavors (strawberries and cream, green apple cinnamon, and chocolate peanut butter banana). It contains oatmeal (no shite), whey protein powder, flax seeds, chia sees, and maca root (I was previously unfamiliar with this ingredient)

Anyway I'll cut to the chase

Macros:

Obviously this product would not be suitable for an ultra low carb diet like keto but if you're on such a diet you wouldn't need a nutrition label to tell you that. As you can see it also contains sucralose (or commercially more commonly known as splenda) so if you are opposed to such artificial sweeteners then this would be a no go.

One thing I've been unable to figure out is how much flax and chia seed is in the product. If I knew that i was going to try to come up with a true cost comparison including all of the ingredients if you wanted to try to replicate via a homemade recipe. I might email them to see if they'd be willing to divulge.

Taste - tastes about how you would expect it to taste is the best I can tell you on this. Of the 3 flavors I like the apple one the most. It tastes good enough to where I'll continue using the product at least until I finish my current supply. According to their website if you try the product and don't care for one of their flavors you can special order just the flavors you want. I don't have a problem with any of the flavors personally.

A word of caution - the product is not recommended to be consumed hot according to the FAQ section of their website. I have tried heating up 2 flavors and won't be trying the 3rd. I don't know if it's the whey or what but it just isn't good hot. Also of note - they recommend that you just drink it out of the bottle. It's doable but as you get to the end it gets a little chunky. I usually drink about half of it on the way to work and then pour the rest in a bowl to finish. A final note on this - don't add much more liquid than where the fill line is because once you dump the packet in there isn't much room left.

Product packaging - from what I've seen there are 3 different ways to buy the product.

1. Comes with a blender bottle (no whisk ball) that has a measuring line at the 8 oz mark and one of each flavor (3)

2. Pack of 12 (equal amounts of each flavor)

3. Pack of 24 (equal amounts of each flavor)

Cost - It's a bit on the expensive side. If you read the amazon reviews you'll see a recurring theme: people genuinely seem to like the product and the convenience it comes with but many have decided it is too expensive to be part of their nutrition routine over the long haul. Honestly I don't think it's that expensive when you factor in the following

a. Convenience
b. I'm terrible with money

On a more serious note it is sort of expensive. On amazon it's $85.00 for a 24 pack which is the most economical way to buy it and that comes out to 3.54 per packet. Plus the cost of 8 oz of milk/milk substitution product of your choice (they don't recommend using water)

Conclusion: Will I continue to use this product or not? I will likely continue using it for the time being because it is very convenient. I could likely come up with some palatable work around to make this type of breakfast from scratch and make it more economical but for now it does the trick. I use it only during the week and make a hot breakfast on weekends now. It does provide pretty good satiety and I don't get any food cravings in between breakfast and lunch so it has helped me avoid snacking during the day.

I've been using the stuff for about 3 weeks now. I think I've covered everything imaginable but if you think I missed something I'll try to answer any questions.

Product looks good. Price is absurd.

I would have a hard time paying $20 for a 24 pack. For $85? I’ll buy some ribeyes.

It's cheaper than picking up a fast food breakfast but I was skipping breakfast so it's an additional cost in my case.

I'll likely look into making my own homemade version eventually.

I don't eat breakfast, but I make my own overnight oats and eat it 2 hours before a lift.

Steel cut oats
Almond milk
PB2
Whey isolate
Greek yogurt
Blueberries

Product isn’t bad, but a whey shake in the morning and a packet of oatmeal is a whole lot cheaper imo. You can blend oats and whey protein shake each night before bed and it’s the same concept or just heat up a pack of oatmeal in the morning and chug a shake. That’s what I typically do

Agreed

And I found a new protein powder that I really like so this might be the ticket for me

I think the key for me is going to be doing it the night before so I'm not fumbling around the kitchen at 5 in the morning trying to throw something in the blender

Yeah, I think the idea of this is awesome because protein and good carbs are a great breakfast, but that price tag is too expensive. If it was $30, I think I could swing it.

I think I'm going to experiment with a homemade version after my stash runs out. Maybe add some kefir to get a probiotic in there as well.

You could easily mix that all together from scratch for much cheaper and suited to your taste

I personally would suggest adding granola. There are some containing both flax and chia seeds already.

Also something I find great are the kashi golean cereals. 9-13 grams fiber and protein each and in each serving for a relatively low number of calories 180-230. Would also be great with yogurt

That's the plan. I have some flax and chia around already anyway. I think in going to get some unflavored protein powder so I can adjust flavor however I want.

I'm going to wait until the stuff I have runs out first

I can think of about 50 better (for you, tasting, economically) things to eat than that for breakfast, even putting aside my low-carb bias.

You're buying about five cents worth of (sugar) ingredients for tree-fitty and still have to add milk (more sugar, but I'd use Milkadamia or coconut milk). Sounds awful.

I'm willing to listen and learn

What would be a good typical breakfast for me?

I do this exact same thing (minus the whey and blueberries plus a half of apple and raisins) on a Sunday night.

I make three of them to bring to work to eat after a morning workout. Also good for just a grab and go breakfast in general. Meal prep is so easy once it becomes an ingrained Sunday habit.

Make 2 cups Steel Cut Oats and store in the fridge. Heat a portion in the mornings. I add soy sauce after I re-heat which is great. 2 cups will last me 10 days or so eating them every morning with some toast w/a local honey, dark chocolate, cinnamon mixture I mix up once a week.

You've never eaten rice w/ soy sauce? Same difference.

Yeah man, I'm pretty open minded, but soy sauce on oats is a little far-out.

I mean if he wanted to make it savory I guess. But he's adding honey and cinnamon.

If he likes it who am I to judge. Just sounds really odd to me.
