My 16 year old nephew is competing in powerlifting this year, in the 240 weight class In his last meet his squat was 540, highest in his class by 50 lbs. His bench and DL were 260 and 450 respectively, which were third place in both. He still won the meet by a considerable margin. Not really a comment but I was surprised the other two lifts lagged behind the squat so much. I don't know if it's technique or what. Presumably his coach will be working on it but I wondered if anybody had an observation.

If he were quicker he could be a national OL recruit. Unfortunately he inherited the family slowness gene.

Everyone has particular lifts that they are just better at. If he's new to it, I imagine that deadlift will outclimb his squat in a hurry with the proper coaching.

240 pounds at 16? Big boy. He’s still very young and developing. His bench and deads will go up with proper coaching.

Really big frame. Thick bone structure.

Explosively ain’t the only metric that matters for athletes imo. Maybe he’s a jiu jitsu master, not an OT.

He sounds like he can’t get into position on the DL and is strong arming it. Tell him to watch Brian Shaw and Eddie Hall lift. They tend to widen their stance a good bit because of hips and stomach size.

Bench sounds like he isn’t bracing properly.

I imagine he could jump 50lbs on each with the right coaching. Then move up from there.

Does he low bar or high bar the squat? Could add some lbs with low if he can get into it.
