Post-Rotator Cuff Surgery Advice?

Just trying to get a feeling for what I'm up against. Surgery was done yesterday (Monday) morning and I've yet to be able to fall asleep 18 hours later due to the pain (opted against the nerve block). Pills are doing a decent job at first but wearing out quick. Any suggestions?
Follow-up is the Monday after Thanksgiving. Attempting to sleep in lift recliner. Surgery was done on right (dominate) arm. The classification of the tear went up to a 3 when they got in and discovered a nearly full tear.

I'm 14 wks postop today.
I stayed in my bed instead of the recliner, using a ramp of pillows PLUS a longer pillow to sleep on my good side. That helped me a lot because the chair was restricting my mobility and I was already immobile in that sling.
Naps. Naps.

Why did you chose not to get the block?
What meds did you get for at home post op?

Thanks for all of the advice! I ended up passing out around 630 and slept through until almost 1.
Due to that 1% I've been on Vicodin/Vicroprofen/Norco at various times over the past 17 years. The surgeon bumped the dosage/frequency of Norco up a bit. Also got Robaxin (4-6 his as needed) and Naproxen (2x/day). Then the standard Colace & Miralax supplements to fight the constipation issue. (Knowing what to expect, I also stated taking fiber gummies over the past month until 7 days before.)
I'll probably move from my lift chair that goes nearly flat to the bed after my post-op. I'm old enough to know how important it is to make proper recovery the #1 priority in the coming months.
Again thanks to all for the advice and giving me some idea what to expect in the coming weeks and months!
quote:I have a pretty high pain tolerance and they told me there is a 1:10 chance of a complication and/or side effect. I was on the wrong side of the 99% chance of a successful back surgery in 2005 so I am extremely risk adverse.
