So I'm hitting failure on my OH Press, and it's always happening right about when I get the bar to forehead level. I can get it there no problem, but getting it that final ~50% to lockout is where I struggle.

I know in lifts like Bench the lift somewhat transitions from a chest to a triceps lift as you move to lockout. Is this similar for OH Press? Is there anything in particular I should work on to improve this portion of the lift?

TIA!

Somewhere true yes. I would work on pin press and z press. Get strong as hell in z press and nothing else matters honestly

Holy shite, that Z Press looks like the most brutal exercise.

Where the f do you find these things lol?!?!

Def gonna try working that in. Do you do straight bar only or mix-in dumbells/KBs?

First suggestion would have been Z press from me as well.

I mix in all methods including trap bar. I do it as a main exercise in place of pressing(rotating it out after I stall) and also at the end for max reps pursuing the greyskull z press Challenge

Lighter strict press until you get stronger?

Here is my shoulder workout:

Barbell Press
Warmup sets, 3x5-6 reps at 75%-85% of my 1RM

Seated DB press
3 sets of 6-8 reps at weight that pushes me to failure

DB Front Raise, DB Lateral Raise and DB Rear Raise
2x8 of each using moderate weight

Z Press is great for stability.

I'd add in banded presses. The accomodating resistance is great for improving lockout and tricep strength in a movement that will transfer to OHP.

Really, any power tricep work plus stability and form will help a lot.
