True I guess. The running started back up for me after the coaching though. First year of our marriage I wasn’t running much at all. Just wanted to focus on the coaching bit.

2nd one was born with a heart condition. 2nd born children are already different and especially if they literally require open heart surgery at 5 months but: I was sporadically running by 1 month, and fully training again 3 weeks after her open heart surgery. You kinda get used to the new norm, if I had been running with my first I probably would have been close to full training again within a month. Had my 2nd not needed OHS, it would have probably been within 2
man didn’t know that. Props to you for staying with it through that. Did the surgery fix everything it needed to or are there any lingering effects from the condition still?

Appreciate the advice. Thankfully my wife is kind of like yours and is encouraging me to keep it up as best I can. Hell, she's telling me to sign up for races while she's in her third trimester. I've got a treadmill and a nice fan in case I need slip away for 40 minutes but still be nearby.

It’s an adjustment man although ours just hit six weeks and she’s starting to smile when she sees us so that’s fun.

Yeah that’s the best. I would say it gets easier, but it doesn’t really…just the challenges change Biggest game changer for us was dropping overnight feeds around 3 or 4 months.

As for running, at least one of yall can handle her and the other gets some exercise. My girls just turned 8 months and while I was able to train for a hm recently, 35 miles/week was my highest mileage and it was beginning to put a strain on us. I didn’t get back to running at all until they were maybe 2 or 3 months old.

we were pretty solid about splitting working out times for the first few months. My wife couldn't do much for a 4 or 5 weeks due to the c-section anyway.

Now i run before either of them are awake on the weekdays and usually run with a running stroller.

It was a one and done surgery for all tense and purposes (you can never be sure for 50 years from now etc.). She was born with a condition called tetralogy of fallot but in her case it was actually EXTREMELY mild and after they patched her 1 glaring issue everything returned to "normal human behavior"

To put it in perspective: when she was born her prognosis was the exact same as the Shaun White with 40 years of technological improvements.

I mean, one of the things that probably helped was that I wasn't a serious runner until after she was born, like 3 months after her Surgery (when I started my first Marathon training). Remember, my first race I ever did was the Marathon last April cause I never do things in the right order

well that’s good. I couldn’t imagine going through that. I’d be stressed and worried shitless.

Trying something different today... 200m repeats at 1 mile pace. (13 times) then 1 mile tempo.

My original training plan had me tapering (1 week recover) this week but with my illness 2 weeks ago I'm treating that as the taper and pushing closer to 50 miles (45 last week, 48 this week)

Smallest interval I've ever done was 800m so this will be very interesting

thats definitely good for pace control. The first few reps are going to feel insanely easy but if you get good at repping out shorter distances at race feel it gets easier to know if youre on or off during.

40 min tempo run tonight. Target HR is 155-165. Pace was significantly slower tonight. Guessing it was due to the heat. 8 miles total.

Cross train tomorrow the. Hill repeats on Thursday.

Nice! You were cooking on those 200s

I did 5x1km with 60s rest last night. I still don't know my tempo pace because I haven't raced in a year lmao. So I started around 7:30/mi and ended up around 7 flat? I'm running the St. Patrick's Day race in Metairie so I'll get a new benchmark right before the baby arrives

Today's 12 mile run was utterly brutal.

thats a tough turn around. Did you keep it easy?

I did ten at 6:25 yesterday. Have a two mile repeat workout this afternoon then easy tomorrow and 21 moderate effort saturday morning. aiming for 65 this week. going to take a dip back to 55-60ish next week then build to 70 over 4 weeks before starting the taper to OKC.

Yes I kept it super easy, my anterior talofibular ligament (on my right foot) was; and kinda still is, giving me a bit of trouble as well. Normally I would add some Tempo and Marathon pace stuff in today but I think I'm going to just do a normal easy run today with not a lot of pace work. Glad my training plan only had me doing one 200m session because for an endurance runner it really feels like I put my body through the ringer this week.

(I'll probably add the Tempo work into my Saturday long run, or just be short this week on Tempo stuff... I feel like the 200m stuff was a pretty hard push on my body, and I did a mile of Tempo after all of it, so nothing to be ashamed of )

am I a baller or a dumbass?!

8 Miles with 4 Miles at Marathon Pace and 1 Mile at Half Pace

After 1 mile my ligament pain was completely gone so I went for it. I actually feel better today after the run than I did yesterday after the run, so kinda glad I went for it.

I'm also thinking I might remove Altras from my shoe collection... I don't know if it's a coincidence but my feet always seem to hurt more after running in my Altras than Saucony. I do feel like running in Altra every so often has kept my feet stronger and kinda kept me from getting injuries... but it's getting harder and harder to justify putting on my Altras when I just hurt SO BAD after every single run in them.

I'm leaning this way too. I've been doing my base stuff in Xeros without the insoles. Feel amazing, but on my race pace efforts, I want a little more protection especially on pavement. Was using Saucony and got some Altras. Altras aren't my favorites.

My hoka bondi’s needed to be replaced this week so I bought the ASICS Nimbus Gel 26’s and have run with them twice now and I’m vv impressed with them.

Keep in mind that my distance running isn’t as long as y’all’s but I’m hoping to get there.

Also - I’ve gone back and read quite a bit of this thread and y’all have a lot to offer new and intermediate runners.

Y’all are very encouraging and motivate me to factor in more tempo runs and actually take rest days.

Does anyone else hate rest days?? If I’m super busy with work or whatever it’s easier to not run - but if my schedule is open and the weather is great and it needs to be a rest day- I almost can’t help but hit the pavement.

Worse, I get to the point where I hate easy days if it's a really nice day I hate having to get out the door and do an hour easy. Give me mile repeats or give me rest!
