Cool. I've never been before. Looking forward to some new trails.

I learned another lesson today. When running on trails, I need to wear bug spray. I also need to google what to do if hogs charge you, because I startled a pair and had an “oh shite” moment.

Unfortunately, bug spray doesn’t work for horse or deer flies unless you spray a hat with it. I’ll post a like to a good video on it.

I came across a boar once. I was lucky he didn’t see me or didn’t care.

Anybody know if Garmin stops updating their older models (similar to Apple) or something? My Vivoactive 3 is worse than ever as far as GPS/pace inaccuracy. Any bit of shade and my pace goes haywire. Of course I’m always looking for shade this time of year. I switched from Polar to Garmin for the supposed superior GPS function... now not so sure.

No clue but I feel like my Vivosport does the same. Oak tree shade in Audubon park throws it off. I ended up running probably an extra .2/.3 miles on a run last week because of it.

8 @ 10/mile this AM. Had a 1000’ of elevation change on mine with 1.5 miles of trails with a ton of switchbacks.

Slogged through 10 today, longest I’ve run since mid March I think. Was fighting shin splints all week so really wasn’t sure if I’d make it past 5 or 6 today. Decided to roll with my Zoom Fly SP’s for more cushion and just a little mental boost...got past 4 miles feeling good so just kept truckin to 10. Slower than usual, but it is oppressively hot so no biggie.

Another thing I wanted to share with y’all: anyone looking for quality running sunglasses, check out Roka. They are pricey but I splurged on polarized lenses. Got the Oslo frames in the clear finish with black polarized lenses. Price is $180ish but I used my $50 credit that I earned from their Strava challenge. These things are badass, super lightweight, don’t move at all, and stylish enough to wear out and about. Highly recommend.

Guess I should pay more attention to those Strava challenges. Got a few pairs of Goodr that have been through the ringer and lenses are scratched to all hell.

I think they have another going on right now. Like 200 or 300 minutes of activity in two weeks and you get a $50 voucher. They’re pretty easy.

Not sure on some of the models but my Fenix 5s just updated the other day.

Couple easy days this weekend. 10 on Sat and a couple on Sun with the kids in the stroller.

I have put an end to the coaching saga. It's been 9 weeks and my coach has missed our "weekly call" 6 times. Unacceptable IMO.

I sent this email:

We are in week nine of this experiment and I must admit I have some concerns. I would have brought this up in one of our weekly calls but...

My first concern. Nine weeks, and 3 calls not including the impromptu mid Saturday morning cussing that you delivered.

Second concern. Speaking of that impromptu call... It still really sticks out in my mind. I admit I was in the wrong but there was a good way to address that email, and there was the way you addressed it. For lack of better verbiage, it was a temper tantrum. That impression has stuck with me.

Third concern. You are pulling my marathon pace times from the vDot calculation of a failed 5k. Additionally, you wouldn't break down my paces which exacerbated the issue. For clarification you can't say "I wouldn't have gone out at 5:18 pace" then proceed to take that result and apply it to all my training.

Additionally, I have stated that my top priority is to learn how to race. Not physically, but to understand the nuance of pacing and where I should be for each stage. Nine weeks and not a peep...

Right now if we boil down what this is, whether you believe it to be true or not is: I am paying you essentially to write me a plan, I look, I do. Feedback other than "how's the legs?" Or "smooth" is not existent. I'm paying you to teach me and I'm willing to learn, but I think you are just somewhere else. You might have a lot going on in your life right now. It's a hard time for everyone. Personally, I've lost my mother, father, grandmother, aunt, and my best friend's mother whom I adored in the last year. I have not let it affect my work, period.

I'm not paying for 50 percent of your effort, ****. I'm not paying for 90 percent; I'm paying for 100 percent of your effort and I'm not getting it.

I know that I'm not really easy to read. I don't need motivation, I'm highly motivated. I don't need coachspeak. I need someone that I can learn from.

We've got until the 17th of August, but I understand if you just want to post the plan and part ways. That's where I'm at anyway.

Sometimes it just doesn't work out, and I don't have any hard feelings about it. You shouldn't either.

Damn that’s a bummer. Always someone else better out there. Almost sounds like you’d benefit from getting in close with an elite runner or group of runners and picking their brains re: pace strategy. Feel like most of the coaches are more geared toward regular Joe’s like me improving a 5k from 26 to sub-20 minutes or something like that. Either way, I’m sure you’ll find something, possibly your own sheer will power, to get you where you want to be.

Yeah, it sucks. I like him okay as a person. Here’s the thing, why do I feel like the a-hole? Oh well, lol. Like you said, now I can get back to running with the group when I want.
