I've been doing a few miles here and there but have a lagging IT band issue. I can deal with it with stretching a rolling it, and yes I've gotten the right shoes (neutral and supination cushioning).

Saying that, has anyone had a positive experience with the minimal shoes? The theory behind them makes sense to me, just wanted to hear first hand stories that aren't on Amazon since they fabricate a lot of those reviews now.

It’s all I’ll wear, never going back.

I seriously recommend doing so gradually; don’t just jump in. Altra is a good brand to go zero (or minimal) drop in a modest platform, you can also progress in their brand to more minimal shoes.

Inov8 is my favorite shoe (I take out the insole), but their newer shoes have not impressed me.

I switched over about 4 yrs ago. Now I cannot wear the "support" shoes. As mentioned earlier, do it gradually. 10k's in them with no issues. People run marathons and ultras in them and enjoy them.

I recommend looking into Xero Shoes as they are a small company out of Boulder. I have a couple of pairs and enjoyed their customer service.

I had nerve damage in a foot and lost a bunch of muscle in it. When I was told I could lift again I had to restart with basically nothing. Pretty quickly I hit a wall on squats and deadlift. Ankle just couldn't support anything. So I started running. But no matter how far I could go it didn't help. So I started running barefoot. Could see muscle growing in the foot and I could progress on the squats and deadlifts again.

I've used the barefoot shoes forever now and would not trade them. You build up the natural support that regular shoes try to take the place of. No feet trouble ever again with barefoot shoes.

I started wearing them for anything tenny-shoe related about 5 years ago and have never looked back. I can't take to wear "regular" shoes now with the big "air" heel. The bummer has been I feel like they are making way less models now with the limited rise (or whatever it's called when the heel isn't high.) Even Brooks has ruined most of theirs.

Inov8. Order them 1/2 size bigger for running and 1 size bigger for mud races. Read the book Born To Run.

Love them. Been running in minimalist shoes for 10+ years now.

I've ran barefoot, Vibrams, Inovs, NB Minimus, Vivo Barefoot, etc

But like others have said, start out slow. It is definitely an adjustment.

I don't know about all the injury free claims, but I do know that it will help improve your running efficiency with the change in cadence.

I just ordered the NB minimus. I think to break them in I'll restart C25K. To kinda force me to drive my mileage down, and learn how to run with them during the 9 weeks.
