I have lost 23 pounds in 7 weeks. Not very fast, however the difference is noticeable. I began going to the gyp and doing cardio on the Treadmill and using the bikes, ellipticals. And doing some weight machines for legs, abs, etc.

Then I began gaining a few pounds, although my diet has remained lean proteins, veggies, very little bread at all and sugar out of the diet. Gained 3 pounds in my first week of working out.

Is this water weight, inflammation, or what? Am I doing this all wrong? lol

Impossible to know without assessing your sodium and liquid intakes

I do IF and have lost 20 pounds. I’m 52. You’ll gain some weight back when doing resistance training. I can fluctuate 5-7 pounds day-to-day due to water.

First of all, 23 lbs in 7 weeks isnt slow. 3 lbs a week is pretty good. Most people try to lost 2 lbs a week.

Weight doesn't really matter. Its about body fat%.

If you think you are skinnier than you were before?

Also, there have been studies that suggest that major compound lifts (squats, deadlifts, pullups, dips, bench press) burn more fat than cardio. And can burn fat up to 36 hours later. The reason behind this would be that working out breaks down muscle and then while you recover, your body works to rebuild the muscle bigger and/or stronger.

If you've never learned how to do those lifts correctly, check out Athlean-x on youtube and search for proper ways to do lifts.

The only way to lost fat is caloric deficit. Track your calories and don't over think it. It took me 1.5 years to lose 30 lbs. Now Im a hell of a lot stronger and bigger than i was. i'v lost more than 30lbs of fat.

when you first start. You likely will add some pounds when lifting over time though, if you are getting enough protein. But thats a good thing. a little tip.. ditch the scale now, get some tape.. measure, and go by that.

thanks folks...

I used to be able to lose more quickly.

But it is definitely fat. I have had some major health issues and fighting depression over loss of family members the last 18 months. Decided to try harder.

Lean proteins, Veggies, a few fruits but not a lot. Very little bread, potatoes, etc.

The only weights I am using are the machines ab machine, bicep machine, tri machine, leg machines, etc.

If you have the time to learn proper form and your gym has a good selection of free weights, I'd try to begin incorporating them instead of using the machines. From a functional stand point they are superior. Do you have injuries which would keep you from using free weights?

Mr. Paluka. Can you give me a little more information on your IF routine? I am guessing you also cut down on carbs. Thanks

Just extremely out of shape, 3 bulging discs... Plantars Fascia problems with feet.
Quick breakdown...

Parents were on hospice, mother passed with dementia, father still on hospice. Wife with breast cancer, finally cancer free but still on cancer meds. 2 car wrecks with others fault and no insurance, house flooded... Raising kids while going through the above. For 2 years we have eaten whatever we could get, find.. fast food, etc. It has taken a toll emotionally and physically. Not trying to have excuses, just is what it is. Trying very hard now. Thanks for asking.

Dear Lord, man. That is Job-ian. You are incredible to just get out of bed and put one foot in front of the other. And now you’ve found the discipline to get healthy in the midst of that? That really is inspirational. No more whining from me. God bless you and your family.

thanks, didn't write that for accolades at all. It has been an emotional hell and depression is definitely a fight.

But I believe in my GOd and know he has plans. I don't understand them often, but I must have faith in Him for what are the other options gonna bring me.

So... I may be posting often on here for suggestions, help. Some of you folks are very intelligent about health/fitness. Thanks for your help.

Did 4/6 days last week. 1.4 miles on the treadmill, lifted machine weights, and did the bike/elipitical . Printed sheets to up the reps, and keep tab beginning this week. Wanting to lose 70-80 pounds total and firm as I can. Getting old, but needing to do this now. Appreciate the prayers, and kind thoughts.
