It entirely depends on what your body composition is. If you’re obese and in your noob gains phase, you can make gains while losing weight since your gylcogen stores are oversaturated. There’s a genetic component to it as well.

When I dropped weight I know I lost a lot of muscle. But I was much stronger, more defined. Come to find out I lost the fat covering muscles. I was stronger cause I had less weight holding me back. It's way easier doing push-ups and pull-ups when you lose 50+ lbs.

How did you check your bodyfat %? I believe I am in the 23% but don't know how to check for sure
