cant make this up.
To deny that we live in cancer ally (as my wife’s oncologists said) at least partly due to chemical plants, is straight retardation.

I think I'd rather kill myself than go to Arizona again. And as it turns out that's not good for your health.

the cancer rates go right along with the obesity, smoking and alcohol rates also along with the population of African Americans and corresponds to poverty levels
again you and the oncologists have zero clue wtf you are talking about. Why dont you go see the measures these plants have to take to be able to exist when it comes to air and water pollution.
this is not even mentioning that no parish in Louisiana is even in the top 25 counties or parishes for cancer rate and the when you exclude skin cancer...US is barely top 10 in cancer rates. Norway, Denmark, France etc all are higher. Why is the rate so high in the Delta?
and if its cancer alley then why are the poor parishes in NLA having the same rate? Why are they higher than St Benard and Plaq? Why is Vernon higher than west Calc when west Cal is where all the plants are and vernon is two states above?
like i said....just some made up shite.

It’s okay to be wrong. It’s the sign of a well adjusted, mature adult. Obesity is a factor among many other factors including endocrine disrupting, carcinogenic air pollution of which we have more than our fair share.

im wrong all the time....all the time and freely admit it.
but im not wrong here. the data 100% backs me up here.
you should maybe take your own advice.

I took like a week off drinking and it fixed my allergies permanently
Are you sure it’s not just a cumulative hangover?

Just a thought is that the people that work in the plants and are taking the most damage work outside the parish in the sticks. Not staking a claim on that, but I think it's reasonable that a plant guy is the type of person who wants some space and thus lives a parish or two away.
To dismiss the plants as for sure safe and not contributing to cancer rates is weird. Not saying they are, but there's also a lot of data that suggests they have some impact.

no, most of the ones working in the plants are in that parish

what data???
i work in the plants, have in tons of them...i have sat on multiple environmental committees and have put in the systems myself...i have seen the data, reviewed the actual data...the raw numbers not what is put out and its BS
at one time back in the 50/60s...even to the 80s....sure but not in the last couple decades.
the data backs this up too
if the plants were so bad then why are none of the parishes in la or the counties in texas with tons of them even in the top 25 of cancer rates
why are rates where there are no plants higher than areas with?
your argument is the weird one.

Okey dokey
No BS, you should think about meditation or something.
You're very angry.

why is it that everytime you prove someone wrong on here the first thing that comes out is.....
"you sound angry"
like wtf? provide the "data" you talk about or take the L.
im not angry in any sense of the work
calling someone on bullshite doesnt mean one is angry
you sould like a pussy when you say things like that FTR and so does everyone else that does that.
Posted on 1/8/25 at 12:26 pm to Odysseus32
and i wasnt trying to be a dick. its just that the data doesnt really line up with the perceived notion anymore.
the rates in non industrial areas are as high or higher...it matches with other things besides being industrial areas. that was my point.

Yeah, because everyone else is wrong.
People think you're angry because you refute people with anger in the way you respond. You mistype words as if you're pounding on a keyboard. You mix up nouns. You don't use punctuation. I'm not arguing that you're angry or not. It's my opinion that you are, but that is beside the point. I'm letting you know that those things make you look as though you're hastily formulating a reply with nothing but emotion.
Or something like this:
"Take the L". What L? We are having a discussion. There's no winner or loser. Or something like this:
quote:
calling someone on bullshite doesnt mean one is angry
You are correct. But I think you need to understand you're not "calling someone on bullshite". You're stating unequivocally that you're correct and that everyone else is wrong. If you can't understand why this makes people think you're angry, I'm not sure what to tell you.

I can't stress enough how little I think about if I sound like a "pussy" to someone in this message board or this state. Typically, that makes me think I'm on the right path forward.

Again….99% of the time I’m posting from my phone, it’s a little keyboard brother and I use swipe
As far as the argument…show the data that shows the rates of cancer are higher near the plants
That was my whole point. They aren’t, at least anymore.
Plenty of reasons to move out of La, but health ain’t really one when we spend most time inside where humidity and allergens should not be a problem as we all have AC

All I know is growing up swimming in the Bonnet Carre Spillway and having my skin peel. And many of my otherwise healthy plant baw family members get cancer and organ failure. Maybe it’s much better today than the 90s.
Data in this chart is complicated by affluent/poor, but it’s a popular chart.

its way different than in the 90s, that is really when it started changing. at every outlet there are ph and temperature sensors...they must balance and neutralize before releasing. then any out of spec is auto reported that day to deq. then all places have fenceline monitoring where again its auto reported(not all plants have this yet)
then on flairs and other incinerating devices, they have certain limits depending on the type and they can only stay out of spec for certain amount of time before its reported
all reported incidents get you fines if they are bad enough or frequent enough. in other words...affect the general public and its gonna cost you out the arse
for the most part the enigneers at these places do the right thing. The bigger issue in the field imo is actually on the regulation side. They dont always do the right thing when claiming to do the right thing. Sometimes they say...we only want you to use this type of incineration device even though others are cleaner for this application. Ill leave it to yall to figure out why that is
as far as the chart....if you look at the actual rates..that doesnt match up. especially if you start looking at areas that have no industry yet rates are much higher than places that do.
all im saying is the cancer alley thing is BS. its just like that documentary that came out about Mossville near LC and was blasted on national news.....was complete BS to anyone that knew.
