Wouldn't that be a standard low carb diet and not keto though?

the way I see it... standard low carb is like 80-100g/day. Regular diet is more like 200-300g carbs.

Ketogenic would be <30g carbs a day. In general, the body will not enter ketosis as long as there are enough carbs available from the diet or stored glycogen to provide the cells with energy.

The amount of fat consumed doesn't affect this. It's the absence of glycogen.

The Rapid Fat Loss / Protein-sparing modified fast protocols call for hardly any fat, but there will be a state of ketosis in the body.

So I started keto exactly one week ago. Have lost about 5 lbs by only worrying about carbs. I make sure to keep them under 20g per day, and haven't worried about much else (within reason).

I haven't worried to much about strict keto and strictly adhering to macros because a) I want to ease into everything and b) I wasn't too sure about how dedicated I'll be. I guess my question is this: as long as I keep carbs under 20g and eat relatively healthy everywhere else, am I doing right (roughly)?

I love meat, especially fatty cuts, so I don't think I'll have a problem of not enough proteins or fats, just wondering if I need to worry too much about them as long as I'm strict on carbs

Eating the fats help you to stay satisfied for longer.

Counting everything would obviously be better, but keep doing what you are doing as long as its working. If it stops working pay a little closer attention.

That's kind of what I'm thinking. Keeping control of carbs is #1 for me, and if I can do that, then everything else should fall in line. Even if I'm not in true ketosys, I'm still reducing carbs big time and that should pay off.0

As long as you're doing the things to help your body acclimate to ketosis, like increased water intake and electrolyte supplementation (magnesium, sodium, potassium), you should be just fine.

I found it easier to get into Ketosis by gradually cutting out carbs over like 5 days, and then fasting for more than 24 hours after that. Make sure you do some form of fasted cardio that same morning and late at night. Break the fast with some bulletproof coffee on day 7. Then eat one meal high in fat with almost no carbs that night. Fast again after that meal till about that same time on day 8. Do some light cardio in a fasted stated, and by then my body has started producing ketones. Only tried twice tho but it's worked each time.

That way takes a bit of time, but it's been successful for me. If you can't get into ketosis that way, or it's just not your thing, I'd probably just keep doing low carb and no sugar and you'll still get some of the effects of ketosis, plus I think not having carb cravings is the best benefit.

Or be a mad man and eat a "zero-carb" diet. I.e. only foods from the animal kingdom. People already find that keto can be great while lowering carbs dramatically - why not take it all the way and see what happens?

Because there is no point. If your carbs are from 0 to your body's limit for ketosis, you are in ketosis.

No keto is short for ketosis, which is your body producing ketones because it is burning fat for energy by definition.

Where do you think you get the majority of your calories from on a ketogenic diet? You need fat, and lots of it. If you don't have it, you'll not get sufficient calories for the day, and your body will go into starvation mode.

Your body has some...which is why people don't die when they do a PSMF like Rapid Fat Loss Handbook.

I think the point is that there is no specific ketogenic ratio you need to shoot for, like getting 70% of calories from fat versus 60%.

I always keep a carton of heavy cream on hand. Take a few swigs from it over the course of a day.

Oh, there are points to it, but not in this context.

You get plenty of calories from protein and the associated fats from them.
