Very new to the whole supplement thing.

Been working out for about 3-4 months. Lost about 10-lbs so far. Dieting is kind of "on again off again". Generally trying to stay under 2100 calories.

Lifting Tuesdays-Thursdays and then either Saturday or Sunday. Just easier for me that way. Gaining strength every workout it seems.

As most of us working class are, I feel the need for a little pep for my workouts. So I bought a can of SixStar Aminos+Energy and I can tell that it allows me to workout harder. It has an Amino blend + 2:1:1 ratio BCAA blend. Then Post work out, I am taking Xtend BCAA's (also 2:1:1) for recovery.

Am I on the right track? Does anyone have suggestions about what direction I should go with the supplements?

Stats: 48-yr old, 6-5height, 260lbs
Down 10 lbs. Looking for at least another 10.

Increase the overall amount of protein and those BCAA's during the workout are amazing.

I only do BCAA's during workout and a Preworkout drink. If I have a lower back intensive workout, I'll throw in some Taurine to help with the back pump.

Once I hit a plateau, I'm going to introduce Creatine.

Are BCAA's for recovery? I thought it was the Aminos in the Amino/BCAA blend that was giving me that energy.

No. They help your body process protein more efficiently. It's pretty proven at this point that help stimulate muscle growth and recovery. One of the best supps people can use right now.

The "newest greatest" study that came out shows they do cause protein syntesis but not as well as full protein.

OP... BCAAs are great for intraworkout

creatine works really well for strength and performance

high dosed glutamine, citrilune mallate, creotinol o phosphate are all great for recovery

beta alinine is great for endurance

whey isolate or a whey/egg/casein blend for protein supplementation. I recommend true nutrition.

other than that high dosed fish oil and a multi are all you should really take.

if you wanna take it to the next level than you can goto something like plazma/mag 10 from biotest or true nutritions competitive post workout formula and use them pre/intra/post. If you do go this route, use the biotest flavoring as the nature of the type of protein and carbs taste like crap, the biotest flavorings help a ton. Realize this is not needed by 95% of population and their goals but they are the best and do work great.
