As a dentist of 31 years in practice I clearly see that a huge portion of seniors 60 and over who have lost their teeth due to periodontal disease have contracted Alzheimer's.
Moral of the story...want good brain health? Visit your dentist often and practice all-American oral hygiene at home.

This is all true and you will see more and more about this in national news stories in the months to come. You saw it here first.

My wife works for a Cardiologist group, and they stress good oral hygiene as well. Apparently, there is a well known relation to gum disease and cardiovascular disease.

The more I dive into the new science/studies about diet, the more it seems that they are all related to eating a standard American diet packed with carbs especially processes carbs. It seems that more and more of the things that are killing Americans are metabolic diseases. It's all related to how and what we eat.

Are we about to turn a gum disease/alzheimers thread into another keto post in just 2 moves?

Yup. I did it.

In no place did I say keto. Any scientist or doctor worth their salt will tell you to stay away from processed foods. Why? sugar and carbs. Keto is just one vehicle to do that. You can eat clean without eating keto.

New studies are without a doubt saying that eating a low carb diet is good for you for a variety of reasons. Gum disease/Alzheimer's/cardiovascular disease are 3 of them along with a laundry list of auto-immune disorders. I guess I shouldn't bring up relevant points in a post, because the keto haters might get upset

Haha I'm just screwing with ya'. I have absolutely nothing against keto. It's just so damn fun to pick on it. Like crossfit.

You can eat carbs. It just can’t be 80% of your diet.

Can I not floss, but go to dentist every 6 months and still have “good oral hygiene”? I hate flossing.

Yep. I’m susceptible to Alzheimer’s (both sides) so I stay away. Crazy the relation food has to the body in ways I’ve never connected years ago, gum disease, Alzheimer’s (Type 3 Diabetes), depression, obesity, type 2 diabetes, fatty liver...

You gotta floss. If you dont there is stinky rotten gunk crammed between your teeth and gums.

I love flossing. I’m old enough to have those little flossed in my truck now.
