What worked for me?
Quit alcohol
Low carb diet
10k steps a day
Nothing motivates like results
Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels
Swimming is great if you have the opportunity
I’m into spin classes now.
Lift weights. High reps lower amounts.

Also have some patience, no matter what you do it will take time to see the results. The exercise is not what gets you to directly lose weight. The build up of your metabolism after exercising on a regular schedule for a period of time is what loses the weight. I've lost 40 pounds in the last seven months and it took me a good six to eight weeks to lose the first ten pounds. Also stay away from the Fs--fast food and fried food. Cut out saturated fats and added sugars. Read nutrition labels, you will shite bricks when you see how much sugar is added to most foods. Also "reduced fat" on a label does not mean low fat or healthy. Reduced fat just means less fat than our normal junk. Low fat products have standards they have to meet to put that on the label. Reduced fat products do not.

A lot of good info here. The lines that resonate with me and I think would benefit the OP

I’m now that guy in the grocery store that’s holding 2 similar products and looking at the nutrition labels

Yea they will. I was so sore that I couldn’t even fully extend my arms. This lasted longer than I expected, kinda freaked me out but I kept moving.

Cut out 3 things from your diet to start:

1. Sugar - Sugar in all forms. No more soda. Check the label on things that you eat.

2. Seed Oils - So many processed foods that you eat are full of toxic seed oils that are catastrophic for your health.

3. Wheat - If you stop eating wheat and it is likely that you will stop bloating so much. It is very easy to overeat when eating wheat in my opinion.

I would start with just changing your diet first before diving in to a rigorous workout routine. Eat nothing but plants, fruit and meat (avoid everything processed) and you will start dropping pounds immediately.

I think 2 and 3 are good suggestions. The problem with #1 is that depleting liver glycogen leads to problems. This issue address low carb diets. In your diet you could be recommending complex carbs and starch which has its own problems that I wont get into.

quote:

Thyroid Hormone

A molecule inextricably related to cellular CO2 production is thyroid hormone (triiodothyronine, T3). T3 is required to produce, among other things, the sex steroids [27]and vitamin A from beta-carotene[28]. Metabolic rate and T3 levels are nearly synonymous, and exert long-term control of heart rate [29]and heat production [30]. During metabolic dysregulation, or acute stress, epinephrine and norepinephrine become more involved in heart rate[31]and body temperature[32], in a similar phenomenon to energy substrate mobilization during stress described above. Despite the name of the thyroid gland, most of the body’s T3 is produced in the liver by converting the prohormone tyrosine to T3. This production is dependent on liver glucose and glycogen[33]and enhanced through an insulin-suppressive action on paraventricular neuropeptide y secretion [34]. Additionally, hypoglycemia-induced glucocorticoids oppose T3 production[35].Clinically, a calorie restricted, low carb diet causes a similar depression of T3 as starvation, which is not seen in calorie restricted carbohydrate feeding [36]. Thus a low carbohydrate diet appears to be aT3 suppressive diet

In my humble opinion, focusing on diet is the first part of your plan. I'm sure you've heard the following:

"You can't out exercise a bad diet."

"Abs are made in the kitchen."

"Eat to live, don't live to eat."

All are true! Take the time to learn about food (and what is NOT food) and what each thing will provide for your body. If you focus on treating food as what it actually is - fuel for a living body - it makes it much easier to make good choices.

Would you poor syrup in your car and expect it to run well?

As far as exercise, add that in several times a week. Just start with walking in your neighborhood. Get the blood flowing and get used to how good exercise makes you feel. It doesn't have to start out with something major. After all, the only "bad" workout is the one that didn't happen.

Good luck!

Simple changes can really help kickstart.

-cut out sodas and alcohol
-drink water
-get regular sleep

In addition to that, easy food changes. Diets don’t really work and are easy to fail. Eat more proteins to keep you full longer. Chicken, Turkey, salmon, cod, lean beef like flank steak paired with grilled or steamed vegetables. You can make infinite combos with different seasonings.

I made these changes then started an exercise routine in January and have lost 30 lbs.

Once you start feeling better it’s easy to keep going. Remember it takes time and won’t happen overnight.
