Most of the devices these days will be close enough. I had a pedometer for a health program at work years ago. Tested it against an Apple Watch and a Fitbit. Took 500 steps and they were all within 5-10 steps of that. Tried it running as well and about the same.

Take 30 steps, see if your phones says 30 steps.
