I just started getting into HIIT training on the treadmill and running in the neighborhood on weekends.

I do HIIT 3 times a week and jog the neighborhood on sunday afternoons. My heels have started killing me so I layed off for a while but they have not gotten any better. This sucks because since starting HIIT I shed pounds with a quickness.

I googled and it looks like it could be my shoes. I run in the Adidas Ultraboost. These are just the tennis shoes I had, I didn't get them specifically for running. What shoe do you recommend to ease pain while running?

Had a similar problem. I wear Brooks Glycerin's and basically like them, but needed more cushioning. Varsity Sports in BR fitted me with the Aetrex L800 insoles to replace the ones that came with the shoe. That and stretching my hamstrings better helped to alleviate my heal pain. Here is the link to Aetrex. Aetrex Insoles

To add to the lacrosse ball, take a 20 oz bottle, fill it with water and freeze it. Use it to roll on your feet.

Stretch and roll your calves and hamstrings a good bit

Work on heel raises on a step really focusing on eccentric control on the way down. Also try and work your gluts

Have you tried minimalist shoes with a low heel drop? It essentially keeps you from your heel every striking.

WTF. Glycerin is by far one of the most cushioned shoes ever. do you need to stuff marshmallows in there?

The best running shoes are Asics. Spend the money, get sized and find a good pair and your feet will thank you.
