Relocating to Frisco, TX in a couple weeks. Anyone here from the area? Trying to find a decent gym to lift at.

Not interested in the planet fitness/anytime fitness type gyms. I heard there is a brand new LA Fitness on Main St. I've never been to an LA Fitness though.

There's a million options. How much are you looking to spend/ what style of place are you looking for?

No more than $65 ideally.

I’ve worked out at both a hardcore gym (gritty, deadlift platforms) and a more modern gym (sauna, basketball court, etc) in the past two years and enjoyed both for different reasons.

I’ll be in town next week. Was going to get some recommendations from here then check them out in person.

That's not going to get you much more than a anytime type place here. You may can get something for that in Frisco, but not really towards downtown. All the LA fitness around here are nice and I know quite a few people that go there. It's probably also around that price, no more than $75/month anyway.

Okay well how about $100

I'm used to paying $65 now, but I will be getting a pay increase. I just don't know how much gyms typically run around that area.

ETA: I'd really like somewhere that has some turf that you can do some sled work on.

That'll get you anything but all access CrossFit if that's your thing. Sweet spot is $75-$100 and it seems like your flexible enough to find a good spot.

What I'd do is find out where you'll be living and find a place that is close. A place 5 miles away could be anywhere between 10 and 30 minutes or more depending on direction so you'll have to check out the area. LA Fitness is a good place to start, I've never heard a bad thing about it.

Eta: I go to a place called extreme studio performance is Farmers Branch. It's just off the tollway. It has 35 yard turf like you want and it's only $75/month which is really an awesome price for what you get. Probably too far from Frisco though.

I'll be around Teel and Main St.

Not sure if that means anything.

I pay $35 a month for LA Fitness in Uptown Dallas. It’s a Signature club and I haven’t had any issues other than it’s packed, but I got at 5:30 pm. It’s to be expected.

Welcome to Frisco. There are a couple of us that post in here.

You will have everything you need within 15 minutes of you. The billion dollar mile has more construction projects than any other area in the US.

Plenty of gym options. One thing worth checking out is the Star in Frisco off Lebanon and Tollway. Its the practice facility of the Cowboys and only a year old.

I made fun of it when they announced they will have a public gym and health club, but its $88 a month and people who have used it swear by it. Its first class all the way and has everything. Worth looking at.

You will also be 5 minutes from the YMCA, and TX Family Fitness, which is $15 a month and has everything minus extras like locker rooms, showers, and steam/sauna. Let me know if you have questions.

Forgot to add, map it out and see how far you are from the Frisco Rec Center. Its on Preston east of the Tollway and one of the nicest rec centers ive ever seen. Its $400 annually for residents and $650 for families.

Has everything- gym, pools, rock climbing, basketball courts, etc.

Looks awesome. Do you think they’d mind if I wear some Saints gear in there?

Just kidding. I might swing by next week and get a tour.

That's good to hear. I'll know one person in the entire Dallas area so it should be interesting.

if you’re into lifting, I would check out Metroflex

The OG one (that Ronnie Coleman and Branch Warren made famous) is in Arlington, but Plano should be close to frisco LINK

I think I know the owner of that place.

FYI it’s not close to where you will be living. Completely across Plano and Frisco from where you’ll be. Remember, Plano is a suburb but also has 350,000 people. It ain’t tiny.

Yeah. Collin County is the county north of Dallas and has 1M people. Read an article the other day that said with the growth it’s experiencing, they project it to be at 2.2M by 2030.
